To be fair about WOW while it has problems and falls into being a second job game really really hard, the class design for it has been miles above XIV for like 5 years now, every single role in WoW has a class I find fun as opposed to XIV where theres three jobs in the entire game I enjoy which are all DPS. Really the only thing that holds me back from playing WoW is my apprehension of how new systems go in expansions so its leaving me to wait for a few months to see if its new content isn't a grindfest and can be something thats just fun.
XIV kinda holds me over rn with Eureka 3 and Beastmaster but besides that yeah I really don't care, I don't even know if I will raid past this tier because of how bad BLM feels to play rn.

So about WoW there.... I just heard about the latest severe round of layoffs at Blizzard, and now I am not entirely sure if WoW will be able to maintain the recovery trajectory they had just gotten on. It sounded like a lot of corpo speak while cutting away the layers of people who actually understood the games and replacing them with the generic support structure at XBOX. You know, the ones so far removed from the actual games that recently made a mess banning accounts when FFXIV came to XBOX because they weren't aware that people using the phrase Free Company weren't soliciting sex work?

So.. I hope we are not about to lose them as viable alternative over all sorts of organizational problems again.

I've been feeling that way since PSO2 came out where it kinda feels like a chore to play. I've been playing since launch yet I haven't even finished DT's story yet.

yeah tbh I think i'm getting off the ff14 train. Starting in ARR it was fun to see how this amazing new game would grow and develop and where it would go but as of now im pretty disgusted if i'm being honest. Dawntrail was an insult to anyone with a brain and the incessant and rampant use of 3rd party sex mods by loser dudes looking at big catgirl booba or some bunny girl with a giant penis being the norm is also kind of a joke.

Why are you hating on Rp'ers ... We are the ones that keep this game going? We make this game livelier and more exciting. We give reason to logging in and playing the game longer than usual. How do you know of 3rd party usages? how do you even see it if you are not a user? Go to balmug and see why it's the most populated server world? Then you will understand and not hate Rp'ers. I am from dynamis and I visited balmug and had so much fun I decided to create an alt there to grow it to max level because of the rp.

And speaking of Zone 6...I genuinely felt bad about the people in Living Memory and deleting them, going "It must suck to essentially be forced to live forever because a group of people made a robot with a flawed concept that you all must live no matter what the cost" going into it...Only to then have literally everyone in the zone not give a single fuck if they are deleted or not. They don't care. Nobody cares. And you're constantly told that again, and again, and again while trying to force emotional moments between the "goodbyes" at the end of each terminal. Yeah I cried during Eren and Cahciua's moment, only to the critically think about it and realize Cahciua, or anyone else really, didn't once ever really care about how Erenville felt at all while we were shutting everything down, and then essentially guilt tripped him at the very end to be happy. I wasted my emotion card on a zone that essentially mocked and laughed at me from beginning to end for having feelings about it.

Of all of the things Dawntrail got wrong, this one was the worst to me. It's bad enough to brush off the terrible weight of ending so many lives (don't anyone come at me with "but they aren't real" i swear to god) with "oh everyone's okay with it ", but how are we expected to believe that people whose culture is so afraid of death that they built their entire society around perverting nature and abusing their own souls and memories to avoid it, are just suddenly okay with the concept of total oblivion after being promised pseudo-immortality?

I was running around Zalera and 2 people were Roleplaying out of the main area. They were having a serious lore-appropriate conversations as characters that would live in the setting. It was great to see - I played a bard song for a minute and left, but it was nice to see the area feeling a bit more alive and immersive because they were there.

I'm a long time MMO Roleplayer over the years, and I'm not sure why people attack them.

If I roleplay, I personally prefer lore-related and story-driven RP over social/clubbing RP. But who am I to judge how others spend their time and what they get enjoyment out of? If you don't look for RP it's rare that it intrudes on anything anyone is doing. And if you don't stand around main zone-in points you dont really see it at all.

For sure, it's kind of not great either way. Plus, to even argue that effectively you'd have to say that it exists entirely in subtext because it's not really brought up at all, and at that point I'd point out the subtext of things like the guy who was finally able to propose to his beloved after waiting untold years. I somehow doubt that guy was happy about being erased 10 minutes after.

I think people are reading too much into the non existent subtext of the endless

They were just terribly written because the writers wanted to have their cake and eat it too. Depending on if we were trying to generate meaningful moments for krile and erenville or focusing on the threat to tural the endless are both mindless victims of sphene’s machinations and meaningful living human beings

They wanted us to feel something for krile losing her parents again or erenville losing cauchia but they didn’t want to make the WOL out to be a genocidal maniac for killing an entire city of people and we ended up with a weird incongruous mix of the two. It didn’t help that the background endless have zero personality or agency and we don’t actually know how they feel about anything. The closest we get is the proposal and a vague “we probably can’t stay like this forever” but the game never seems to allow the endless to say they want to live which really just one dimensionally forces the whole “perversion of nature” point down your throats because the endless aren’t allowed to show humanity opposing their own demise

It was so bad I actually rewrote the whole endless in my headcanon because due to horrific circumstances in my WOL’s past they refuse to deny humanity to the endless and so defy the scions and wuk Lamat to keep the endless online and substitute the endless aether deficit with his own aether
