If people are really review bombing it on steam it's costing them a lot of money. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe steam requires a player to own a game before they're allowed to leave a review for it.

You need to have played the game or owned it to review it on Steam. So for a game with a price tag you have to buy it (on steam, elsewhere, or someone bought it and gifted it to you) to be able to review it, meanwhile free games you have had to added it to your library to be able to review it. People can refund a game after reviewing it, but it also states in their review that the product was refunded.

Not sure if you can buy and then refund an expansion like DawnTrail (never tried it myself), but even if you can, anyone buying it just to up/down vote and then refund will be obvious if they review it on DawnTrails page.

The problem is the MSQ was so bad that it really does drag the rest of new content in the game down with it for me. I just don't feel compelled to log in and play when chances are any roulette I do to level is going to put me Dawntrail stuff, which just reminds me how how much of a bad time I was having going through the MSQ. Then I have to go and turn in my tomestones at Solution 9, a badly designed hub city with a Smile remix playing, once again reminding me how much I disliked that whole part of the story when before I was really looking forward to getting to the cyperpunk zone. It's all just so tainted in my mind now. Doing anything in the new zones just reminds me how awful the journey was.

I ran some treasure maps the other day with some friends and I was excited every time we got to go to an old zone again, because those zones have happy memories attached to them. Then someone would link one of the new lv100 map and we'd be back in Heratage found I would remember how annoyed I was with everything happening in the plot here.

Posts like this make me glad I forget stuff easily and have a trained tolerance for dumb bullshit, because I actually have a fair bit of fun with the stuff-fighting part of the expansion. Hell even the solo duties were pretty cool.

It's just a shame the actual plot development was unrepentantly meh and the second act reeked of insecurity.

Score dropped to 6.1, from 6.2. It's slowly dropping as time goes on, probably because people are slowly clearing the MSQ. Steam score is still the same, but we might see it drop even more eventually.

I mean, I agree that DT was mediocre, at best, but can't discard the possibility that it's just being review bombed by trolls and the like to get it in the negatives. The MSQ was bad, but not that bad to drag the rest of the game with it.

Usually when something is review bombed it's for reasons outside of the quality of the product. Like the creator did something to upset people. If people are giving something negative reviews because they tried it and didn't like it is that really review bombing or being mad you were sold garbage?

The only people who did any kind of mentoring were Thancred and Urianger on Koana at the campfire scene.
OUR group didn't do anything remotely similar to that.

Wuk is not a bad character. She is typical enough of most JP games in that she's a sprightly, upbeat, cheerful and positive cute tomboy. The only good point that was in the original post was that yes, sometimes our friends focus a bit too much on Wuk (the example with y'shtola calling Wuk instead of us was a good one). After a decade of entirety focus on us, it's not a bad thing for us to take a slightly more backseat to another character, where we acted closer to a mentor than a fully main character.

To counterpart your "uplifting and enlightened" post, Wuk is annoying, shallow and in desperate need of a personality. I listened to Wuk in all languages, doesn't change my opinion about the character. It's still sucks, just with subtitles. And about the WoL being a mentor, a mentor is a teacher, we already know how to nod and we didn't taught her anything. Never was there a teaching moment, we just stood there and nodded. That was it. This expansion had nothing to do with us, it was all about Wuk. Not Krile, nothing of the sort, just that damn orange cringe cat.

"BuT iT wAs ReDuCeD tO hOlLoW tHeAtEr!!!" Yeah, and whose fault is that? Wuk Evu and the Hanu elder, who KNEW WHAT IHIH'HANA DID THE WHOLE TIME but just decided to keep quiet about it all and just not teach the newer Kozama'uka why it was important to take the festival seriously. But hey, Wuk came up with is so she is a GENIUS right?

And who could've known that all you had to do to end Mamook's centuries long eugenics problem overnight was to just offer them the hand of friendship and some different seeds to plant something besides bananas? Apparently not Gulool Ja Ja! He must've been a fucking IDIOT to not come up with the insanely simple answer to Mamook's issues like Wuk was able to do! Who knew it was just THAT simple?

Also, our character MENTORING her? I genuinely wouldn't have cared if we were a background mentor character, but there was NOTHING there to mentor: Wuk was written to be perfect from the very beginning. If anyone was mentored, it was Koana by Thancred and Urianger, and he was rewarded for it by essentially quitting at the finish line and bending the knee to Wuk and going "You're the only one worth leading our nation" like every other person she has encountered has.

Wuk is a One-dimensional Black Hole Sue of a character that warped everyone and everything around her in order to accommodate her and her alone, and Dawntrail is the writers' fanfiction of said character that got the green light.
