Yeah, the cities are probably the least copy-pasted of all the zones, and even if it is copy pasted, there's a good excuse, and that is that they're supposed to be man-made, so why shouldn't things look similar.

The cities are fine, just make a few adjustements here, such as NPCS THAT WALK AROUND, ya know add some life... clutter the streets, even some stalls and maybe pets walking around.
Or am i just going to have to go to Guildwars 2 for that =(
That's a good point, though I do find it a little cheesy that some of the islands in Limsa are copy-pasted.Do you really have a problem with copy/paste going on in cities?
Isn't that what people do?
I thought the main problem was believing that natural terrain would be copied exactly every few feet....
But a city... a man made city is going to be copy pasted... thats actually one of the key elements of a city...
More than anything, I hope they can make the inside of Ul'dah look as cool as the outside. Looking at it from Thanalan, Ul'dah is amazing. Once you get inside, however, it's mostly a few hallways. I'd like to be able to go inside of structures more, and to be able to explore all of that crazy architecture on the upper levels.
I would love to be able to fully explore this:
Or better yet, this:

I'm REALLY excited for 2.0. But yeah, what you said here scares me more than anything else regarding the future of FFXIV.
I thought that even the screenshots of the current XIV looked good. Because they did. But back when I saw the first screens of La Noscea, I didn't realize that you couldn't climb that gentle green hill in the background, nor did I realize that every place on the island would look pretty much the same.
Honestly, I have faith that the new team will get it right. But I'm still nervous.
i hope uldah turns into a post apocalyptic steam punk area complete with mad max theme, also give LL a water world theme with dennis hopper as an npc
True... more important than the copy/paste is that the cities are a HUGE teaser of places we can't goMore than anything, I hope they can make the inside of Ul'dah look as cool as the outside. There's a guy in Ul'dah who mentions there are plans to construct a magitek railroad connecting the three major city states... How long has this guy been around? And I SWEAR to the gods if he is pulling my chain I will punch someone in the throat.
The train being cut from FFXI was my biggest frustration with the entire world of Vana'Diel, if they add a MagiTek train that's not just a loading screen to this game... All I have to say is...

When Dalamud comes crashing down.. Everything gets Bombed but the Cities... in a Lore Perspective... it would make zero since if they didn't change...
Man you look at the concept art, then you look at the result, and its like. What happened? So much missing, so much of the design ruined =( The 3d Result is awful compared to the concept. That's a good point, though I do find it a little cheesy that some of the islands in Limsa are copy-pasted.

Could it be the angle of the screen shot is different? also the tallest parts seem to be further back then what they would be from the concept art... which makes them seem smaller and less grand
