I saw this topic before doing the event, and the only NPC that this felt even slightly odd with was the catgirl from the drowning wench. The other times were from the minstrel, which like, I feel like a mysterious bard NPC that's a stand-in for the director of the game has as much license as anyone would to start using weird words.
They do mistranslate a bunch of things... Playing the game with japanese audio due to voice casting choices we may or may not be allowed to discuss and knowing some basic stuff, you do occasionally hear phrases that don't match the text.
I found it weird, too. But I don't think it's worth freaking out over.
this sound like a child trying to proves their vocabularies knowledge from primary school already cover the entire dictionary
im going to be honest. right. this is a nothing burger. feels like your really in a bad place mentally with the current expansion if something this small is a bother to you, maybe its time to take a break or go do some pvp. It's called a year. Everyone in the entirety of Etheirys calls it a year. It has never been called a "Twelvemonth", that word has literally never appeared, even once, in the entirety of Final Fantasy XIV- I CHECKED.
So we not only have a writing team that don't know the story they're writing on, but the new translation team is just making things up.
This bodes well.
Is it pointless? Yes.
Is it stupid for the translators to randomly throw in words like that for no reason? Also yes.
