I came across a very sizeable reply in the JP discussion thread that included screenshots from a presentation about 2.0's development. Granted this is from 2014 and it's possible the views may have changed, it's still interesting to look back on as it feels like the 7.0 graphics update delivered goes against these principles, particularly with the character changes.

(Including this one because it feels topical)

Original reply and here's a link to the full slides as well.

Lalafell is one of the races, that got good treatment (compared to other races (Au Ra F *cough*).
I still miss the face of my old lala. She looked more goofy, her eyes were brighter and more vibrant to me. And wth happened to her smile?

That’s pretty much how I feel as well… the first benchmark was concerning for various reasons, but they improved a lot by the second one. My Lala is the only one of my characters that (while I’d really like to see the lips/mouth fixed!) I can live with the other changes, because she’s still mostly herself. I do wonder if there’s something that needs fixing with the eye color (texture?) though… I think those actually looked a lot better and more vibrant in the first benchmark, but then everyone’s eyes got duller in the second, in some cases almost looking like cataracts! lol

My poor Highlander on the other hand… I really hope they fix the mouth shape and philtrum issues at a minimum. I can’t seem to find an emote that doesn’t look like she’s doing duck lips now!

Just a reminder that the devs will be reading from a similar thread on the JP forums. If you're going to post in the JP thread, be sure to use google translate to make your post Japanese ♥

The benchmark lighting isn't super reflective of how the brows actually looked in gameplay however.
Here's a small collection of examples from Endwalker in a variety of lightings, with no Gpose Color Filter. I'm on PS5 so no additional overlays were present.
In no situation was it ever difficult to tell the eyebrows were white and in no situation were they ever hard to see.

And some further images that made use of Gpose Color Filter(usually Bright 1, Bright 3, or Bright 4 )

My character's smile now looks weird.

    Hi,

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but since DT my character's smile has looked off. I went through the facial emotes this evening, and it appears that it is the /simper facial expression that looks weird now.

Here are some examples of her smile [/simper] pre-DT:

In these images her smile seems genuine. She seems naturally happy.

But this is her smile post-DT:

Now it just looks off to me. Like only the corners of her mouth are moving up, and not the middle of her mouth. Now her mouth also looks smaller when she smiles than it did pre-DT.

This is the closest picture I could find from my pre-DT pictures to the post-DT picture above:

I don't know if maybe it is the lighting, or the fact that extra "bones" were added to the mouth for DT and maybe those extra bones don't move when she simpers (because they didn't exist before) so now the smile looks weird? I also realize that it is hard to tell from my pictures that something is different. I wish I knew exactly what it was so that I could provide suggestions on how it might be fixed. But, sadly, all I can say is that her smile now looks weird and I don't like it anymore.

Please note that I made 0 changes to Jayde in the character creator after DT. She is using the exact same face, eyes, mouth, nose, eyebrows, chin, bust, voice, and tail that she was using pre-DT.

Thank you for allowing us to provide feedback to you regarding this. It means a lot.

I used to change a lot because of 1.0 and my character ported badly, so then I fell in love with my Midlander and then the graphical update ruined their faces. This past month I have been cat, hyur, cat hyur!

I finally have managed to fix my character and I am hoping that if there are any changes it is to the Midlander mouths and the baggy eyes on face 1. I also do not like the nose on face 1 and 2 anymore so lets hope it is all taken into account. I feel for everyone who feels the same.

I will have funded the next expac in fantasia sales at this rate lol >.<

A question for people who use the eyeshadow-facepaint for their character: has it always added a small amount of colour to the lower eyelid or is that another weird outcome of the update?

My Viera character uses a light amount of dark red eyeshadow on the inner part of the eyelid (its face-shaping rather than makeup) and I've realised it is also colouring the lower eyelid and making the eyes look slightly bloodshot, which I have never noticed before, so there has been a shift in either the placement or the intensity of it or both.

I definitely think facepaint has been altered to have more vivid colours. It's particularly noticable on my Au Ra because I picked the colour to be a similar light brown to his scales, but now it has more of an orange tone to it. (And the scales may have shifted in a different direction, which isn't helping either.)

I see it too on my Miqo'te, and literally every other character. Cutscenes feel abit terrifying as a result too...

Could you take a screenshot of what you mean? I tried replicating it in the benchmark and character creator but I'm not sure what to look for exactly
