That would be odd.
People would catch on pretty quick that it was a cheap move to make it look like a new game for marketing. Probably even resent it.

No, because in the end it's still the same game when 2.0 launches, even Yoshi has pointed this out. Same world, same characters, same plot, and these are the things that make the core of an FF title when it comes down to it.

I would say no.
Because all that has been done is a continuation and expansion of the original FFXIV world and content. It would be more appropriate to call it XIV-2, but that would require the original XIV to truly exist, and come 2.0, it will not.
