Seems we reached a new low point with this.Or they may just let it ride. Because it doesn't matter anyway.
Player input hasn't had a direct influence on the direction of this game since the 1.xx to 2.0 era. Every decision since then is based on player data, not a handful of people taking to the internet to cry about something.
Wonderful.

Yeah, how is this surprising for literally anyone though?
"NOW?" We've BEEN like this. East or West, it doesn't matter. It seems like every tier some raid group, whether they were guilty or not, is the target of some kind of harassment campaign. Remember what happened to JoCat, harassment by the community so bad he had to essentially wipe himself from the internet? Scottzone? The public social suicide of the cheating WF team last year that was overtly supported by many people like a lynch mob?
We've SEEN this. If someone related to or frequently plays XIV told me they haven't been harassed/stalked/insulted, I'd actually be more surprised than if they have been. That's where we're at. It's prevalent everywhere, inescapable as long as people exist in those spaces. Even if people say "It's a minority of people who do that." when you're operating with a fanbase of hundreds of thousands of players, even a fraction of a percent of that number still means potentially hundreds of unhinged elements.
And it only takes one or two dedicated ones to completely crumble someone, especially without shutting down their social media. And that's assuming you take every report as absolute fact.

You're right - it isn't surprising. But that doesn't make it any less disappointing.Yeah, how is this surprising for literally anyone though?

I am going to come to Sena's defense here a little: It's usually advised not to share that stuff. Partially because it can itself set off witch hunts, partially because it can invite further harrassment, and that second one can interfere with law enforcement when and if it becomes necessary.
If you have 10 reports of someone saying 'I'm going to X you', it's a lot easier to investigate than 100 reports, or 1000 reports.
That said: Misgendering is just name-calling. That's it. Doxxing is a greyer area for me because she elected to put her personal identity out on the internet, and that's the start of tracking someone down *for* doxxing attempts. Death threats are unacceptable, but see above.
The simplest solution to stopping these sorts of things is, legitimately, not to engage. Send it on to the relevant authorities, don't comment on it publicly, and take whatever steps are appropriate to protect yourself and those around you in case a nutter tries something.
Don't hold your breath. This is just further bait for validation and love-bombing. That being said I can't blame Sena for this, a very large portion of American full-time voice actors that focus on anime and video games behave the same way and it's pretty despicable. I blame Kate Cwynar for fostering an environment of entitlement, unprofessionalism, and an us-versus-them attitude towards the players of FFXIV. Part of what made FFXIV great was it felt like the people involved loved what they were creating and wanted others to love it, too. That's gone now, at least on the Anglophone side of things. Now we're just expected to consume, applaud, and get excited for next product and if we don't then we're wrong for not liking whatever they give us.

So true. It's not like the community didn't have its problems or wasn't kind of divided beforehand. But I admit, I have never seen it as divided as it is now and has been since DT dropped...Don't hold your breath. This is just further bait for validation and love-bombing. It's really sad to see. The toxic positivity problem that existed before has been boosted to a new, way higher level.
The allegations Sena made, well...we don't know if it's true or not, only she does. It's not like I don't wanna believe her, since harassment is something that is sadly almost a normal occurrence on social media or the internet as a whole. It wouldn't at all surprise me if some crazy individuals actually send her some very evil messages.
However, it also seems like she is clearly aiming for more support (also from the industry as a whole, which is weird because...there are so many voiceactors and she is just a very small one, nearly noone even knows her. Wuk is her first prominent role...so yeah..), the love-bombing that was mentioned in the quoted post and for people to get really rallied up and defend her (which seems to work quite well, I just skimmed through some of the replies and wowie...some people are also saying very, uhm...not so nice and almost dangerous sounding stuff about what should be done with people who dare to call Sena out on her bad VA job...)
Meanwhile, she tweets some other stuff, even seems to be totally chill to stream tonight...instead of taking a break or protecting her accounts...
I have to admit, it's kinda weird.
