Thancred's new face

サンクレッドが好きすぎてサンクレッドを日々研究している者です。
今回のグラフィックスアップデートにより、サンクレッドが別人のように顔が変わってしまったことが個人的に非常に気になり、そのことでなかなかメインストーリーを進められずにいたので今回こちらに初投稿いたしました。
以下に、比較しやすいよう漆黒・暁月の同じムービーシーンを旧・新と並べて添付いたします。
左が旧グラのサンクレッドで、右が宿屋で見た7.0でアップデートされたサンクレッドになります。

Thank you for introducing the above post I wrote on the Japanese forum (dedicated thread for requests only) regarding feedback on Thancred's facial changes!
Since there was no announcement from the management about graphics updates, I posted in another thread (one where you can also discuss graphics updates) a month later. I quote it below.
Here, solutions for the entire graphics update, including not only NPCs but also PCs, are being discussed, so I also wrote a request for a solution for fixing NPCs.

アーリー実装直後の6月末でだいぶ流れてしまい見て頂けてるのか不安でもあるので、念の為こちらのスレッドにも引用で失礼いたします。

PCではなく特定のNPC (サンクレッド) についての要望になります。

こちらの議論スレッドで解決案としてよく出ていました
「プレイする環境として新or旧グラフィックを各自で選択できるようにする」
「キャラクリの選択に旧パーツを追加する」
に関しましては、
NPCの場合は後者は不可能なので個人的には前者の新旧の選択式だとありがたいです。
システム上、難しいのかもしれませんが…

(((または、もしNPCの新グラフィックに修正等を入れるご予定が全く無いということでしたら……
せめて新生〜暁月までは従来の姿のままというのは難しいのでしょうか。宿屋のムービーは旧グラフィック版でも見られるようにするetc..
強ニューやフェイスで今までの冒険の思い出を振り返ったり、宿屋で暁月までのムービーを見返した際も
人相が変わってしまった新グラフィックの姿に変更されていて、今まで長く一緒に旅をしていたサンクレッドの存在が
最初から無かったかのように消えており二度と会えないんだなと思うととても悲しいです。)))

I was worried about how he would turn out from the trailer before release, but I'm insanely disappointed with the way his face has changed.
He used to use a completely unique sculpt, but his current face is much more similar to Midlander 1, sharing identical lip and nose shapes. I much preferred his unique face, and I'd like if it was brought back.

I'm sorry, but he really doesn't look the same! Here's a GIF; you can clearly see the differences in lip shape, nose shape, and even changes to the eyes. The lips are the biggest thing, I think.

I'm glad you made this thread. I've been thinking about how best to bring this up. I'm a major Thancred enjoyer so I am probably too sensitive to the changes, but I think they are noticeable. I do like the idea of making 5.0--Thancred look a little older. I think that is a good idea that matches the story. However, I think the change from ARR--SHB+ is too drastic now. In some lighting and at some angles, 7.0 Thancred looks alright, but at times he looks really different. Here is a comparison taken from a cutscene in an SHB questline ("Dirty Jobs" I think was the title or close to it).

This side-by side makes the differences very obvious. His mouth just does not express in the same way any more.

If I had to list the most serious issues:

1) mouth
2) skin texture
3) eyes
4) cheeks

I think the skin texture issue is a problem for most male midlander right now. It creates this blotchy/acne like appearance that wasn't there before.

Do we have to report these things as bugs to hope for change?

Seeing how his lips changed so much reminds me how even for the majority of player characters they really noticeably changed almost all the lips that weren't already thin, non-curvy ones. Any lips that had any unique or full volume to them were really flattened out, and they ALL look worse. I feel bad for hyurs that a lot of their lip changes also were accompanied by that more defined philtrum, like with Thancred's.

Bless, I've been bothered about this since day 1. I've come to the conclusion that they made his face more like the generic type 1 hyur, than they did the more custom version he had before. This is my face 1 Thancred alt standing alongside NG+ Thancred.



Things I've noticed:

- His nose profile is different (it's longer now and has less of an upturn than it used to have).
- The cupid's bow is much more pronounced now, as he scarcely had one before.
- The mouth is wider over all, and lacks the 'pout' that it used to have.
- Upper lip is thinner now, in particular.
- The eyebrow doesn't have the sharp darker color on the underside, and that makes a shocking difference, as now it nearly blends into his skin.
- There were bags under his eyes before, which seem to be gone now. I can't figure out if it's an overall change with the cheeks or not.

But yes, THANK YOU for making this thread - it's been infuriating me since the day the game went live. He *doesn't feel like Thancred* anymore. I came to the conclusion that while the character looks good, it isn't *him*.

Great list, I also can't tell exactly what is happening with the cheeks but it's having an effect. Your point about the eyebrows is a really good one.

I didn't notice a difference.

I see a slight difference but he's always looked like a very basic Midlander to me? I wish he actually had the face they keep giving him in trailers. Trailer Thancred and in-game Thancred are two different people.

I never really noticed either so it’s interesting to see there is a change.

At a glance it just looks like he got smoother and also got more depth because of the new shadows/lighting. And he looks a bit older too?

It’s not not Thancred, and I kinda prefer the update tbh.
