The only issue I have with the class is that it kind of forces you to have the Flank button on the left and Rear button on the right.
Samurai has their sen the opposite way around, and ever since I started playing Samurai I've had left mean rear, and right mean flank. It's just a bit disorienting to see the inconsistency.

There's no set flank or rear buttons on the base combo. Using Hunter's Sting on your second step will turn both buttons into flank positionals, and using Swiftskin's Sting on your second step will turn both buttons into rear positionals. For the Twinblade combo, Hunter's Coil is flank and Swiftskin's Coil is rear, but you can execute that in whichever order you like.

If it helps you to reverse the buttons, then go ahead. I don't think the Vipersight guide is terribly useful in its current UI design (although a reverse mode probably should be considered). I think you're better off thinking of this as a mudra system and using the active buffs as a guide, because NG and your active venom let you plan what your next three GCDs are. I would probably turn off Vipersight altogether if there was a way of separating out the RC gauge.

I really love viper, it fits me perfectly and i really enjoy the rotation and I love the animations

small things i'd love to see changed:
    - Idle animation for double blade
    - maybe a defensive cooldown would be nice? everyone has one cept us.

1 more point i would mention and this is not a viper only thing. i'd love to see them improve low level gameplay. give us more of our buttons at lvl sync, make them weaker and then just buff them up with passives if need be. its so boring doing low lvl content on our viper or reaper or any of the higher lvl jobs cause you literally dont have anything cept your basic combo.

I, for one, will be more excited for viper when the hype for the new shiny dps class dies down.

Well designed, fast paced, and flashy. Once the newness rubbed off and I got a handle on the gameplay loop, I found the job pretty bland. Lacking personality imo.

Typing /bstance changes your idle animation to the Twinblade

No defensive cooldown while the other new job is rocking a raidwide shield, a raidwide buff, and ranged privilege while doing more dps than me is kinda feelsbad
My other complaint is that the reawakening skills visual/audio feedback is pretty bad for comboing during mechanics. I feel like it's pretty hard to tell if your ogcd between each hit registered and when to press the next skill without looking directly at it compared to reaper shroud which has pretty loud attack skills that make it obvious when to press the next button.

Complaints out of the way I definitely think it's super fun everywhere else, I'll be playing it for the first savage tier. I like a lot of positionals and I like how easy it is to get uptime when you save your 3 discs and plan properly for stuff like heart phase and lariat combos

No defensive Cooldown is actually one of the things i like about it, and Bloodbath straight up goes brrrrrr everything is Physical Damage, use Bloodbath before Reawaken and you see how fast and nice you heal up

You only need to look at the debuff you inflict and manage your gauge, blue gauge and red diamonds.

The ranged attack should be seen more often on other melee job.

    But:
    • Outside of that, you have nothing else to do, melee DPS usually have higher armor or a cooldown to help them survive big hit, I wish VPR had that because it really feels fragile for almost no reason.
    • I find it also difficult to track which positional you'll need to hit. I know it depends on the GCD before but that's little time to predict it. In comparison, RPR has the next positional shining in advance, if you know which sticker you'll want to build as SAM you know which positional is about to happen.
    • The Dread GCDs, not fond of the positionals as you need to double weave between them, I usually pop true north because I forgot to place myself and I'm too lazy to hit the side positional.
    • Reawakening breaks Dreadwinder GCDs, it's a skill issue but I wish it wouldn't, sometimes my debuff is too short to support two Reawakening and Dread Fangs isn't available to use between the two reawakening and I would like to be able to extend the duration of the debuff with Dreadwinder.

The rotation quickly becomes monotonous, follow the glowing button, don't overcap, maintain your debuff until you can burst/double burst. Other jobs have that little something that rewards you with reduced damage taken that you can put whenever you feel it necessary.

VPR lacks something like this, it is limited to role skill.
What you start the combo with is what dictates whether your positional is rear or side. That's plenty of time to know in advance, given it's a decision you make yourself.

As a former SMN main who always dabbled in melee jobs (NIN and then RPR) but never fully committed, I'm really enjoying VPR. It's doubly challenging learning how to maintain uptime in the midst of mastering what I feel is the busiest rotation in the game, but I'm definitely getting more comfortable with it the more time I spend running content on the job. Plus, Reawaken is super satisfying. VPR is like the reverse of the other melees in that the base rotation is busy, but the burst (Reawaken) feels like the chill phase for me.
