Dawntrail is not going to top endwalker. Word is out it sucks and now we have a civil war between two groups of players trying to claim the game for themselves. It's a catastrophe...

They tainted the memory, legacy and nostalgia of final fantasy 9 by marketing it into dt. Dt has more to do with the movie district 9 than ff9. Having this crap expansion tied to ff9 is insulting to ff9. If anything ff8 makes more sense... The marketing dept wanted this bait and switch probably to increase sales based on nostalgia.

I don't know where you're getting your financial information. It certainly isn't from the quarterly and annual reports generated by Square Enix. You've probably read about SE dropping a number of projects and taking a write-down against what was already spent. That does not mean SE is losing money. Fiscal year 2024 (which ended at the end of March) still had an operating income that was 3% lower than the previous year. It was still income.

FY2025/3 Q1 has not been posted yet. At a guess, I predict it will be much better than Q1 for the past several years. But we won't know how much better until mid-August, about 6 weeks after Q1 closed (end of Q1 was 30 June).

And again, since SE hasn't announced numbers since the end of May (based on March numbers), all else is speculation at this point.

They had a bunch of layoffs earlier this year, huge amount, as well as announcing business restructuring in response to disappointing sales, and a shift in development from quantity to quality, supposedly. They consolidated a few of their sub-corporations, which is basically cutting losses for the games those organizations under squex failed to earn back on.

I have a feeling they really needed DT to do well, but stock price seems to have dipped and fallen severely around the DT release. In fact they're at second to their all time low in the last 5 years.

I'm one of those that didn't find the MSQ good (neither too bad either but still I want far more from this game I love).
But...
Sphere = mix of Grenat and Garland (a princess / queen and an artificial being supposed to help a lost civilization survive by vampirizing another planet)
Otis = Steiner (I don't even know why they didn't call him Steiner when it's so obvious)
Solution 9 = Terra
The way Alexandrian use soul = Vivi and the Black Mage, Iifa & Terra
Endless = Genome purpose of giving corpse to soul and memories

It work quite well too.

People hated storm blood story but the content was and still Is the best the game ever had. Would much rather have a dud story and banger content, you only go through the story once.

There is a large vocal minority in this game of toxic casual players who want everything catered to them, you are seeing this on the forum now with the story complaints, content is too hard complaints, not liking the graphics update complaints.

I think when you step back you will find the majority of players who are here for the content are having a fantastic time, same as in stormblood.

Added on that this forum is a vocal minority, the majority of my friends enjoyed the story and the ones that didn't aren't complaining a load.

It's a matter of opinion, not everyone is going to like everything. I liked the low stakes fun plot line, after years of the world is ending.

Honestly I think all those have been terrible referance to 9, they almost as if someones done it from notes there's no soul or love in any of them honestly as someone whole loves 9 it feels outright spiteful. The stuff with S9 seems to to better suit Zanakand and X than anything in 9

People by and large haven't been complaining about the gameplay outside of those few difficulty complainers. This is a story heavy and story focused MMO, the story better be on point since you need to go through the story to get to the content. You mentioning stormblood, DT is reviewing way lower than Stormblood in both critic and user reviews. That should tell you that there is indeed and issue. It is fine to like bad things, but at least admit they are bad.

no they don't... ff9 was a more steampunk setting yet you want me to believe they went all super star trek. ff8 has more visible associations. the wiki entry for eshtar even describes it similar to solution 9.

FFIX is my first and favorite Final Fantasy.

Not saying it's well done, just that it works, there is no FF that talk as much as FFIX of souls (Iifa, the mist, Vivi...), memories (Fratley, Grenat, Amarant...) and preservation at the cost of other not only life but lifecycle (mainly Terra).
Neither FFVIII or FFX are close about that.
