Yeah not saying he was great guy I am saying he loved those adopted children as his own, he loved his legion, he loved his homeland and he loved his emperor.
In turn he lost all of his children and feels responsible for all of their death and even before that he came to regret them being groomed into being soldiers because of his change in of heart so he was already guilt ridden. He was manipulated by Lahabrea into using ultima which killed his entire legion, he hated himself for it so much the only reason he stayed alive was because he felt like he didn't deserve the peace of death. His entire homeland has been completely and utterly destroyed in a civil war, the entire military and goverment population has been destroyed and most of the civilians have also died, he wasn't able to save his Emperor from the Ascians and he truly believed he could of helped the Garleans find peace between the other nations by fighting their joined enemy of the asicans but completely and utterly failed.
If you think hes evil and iredeemable thats fine all im saying is he never had a happy ending, if anything him dying back in ARR would of been more of a mercy then what he went through.
He also found out that the emperor he served for most of his life, Solus, was also an Ascian. Everything he believed and did was built on lies.Yeah not saying he was great guy I am saying he loved those adopted children as his own, he loved his legion, he loved his homeland and he loved his emperor.

More like people are far more interested in virtue signaling these days then they're used to be. I wonder if people know or forget in FF8 children age 5 and 15 are enlisted to eventually become mercenary, many of them are orphans.
