WoW called. They want to know when this system was slipped into their game without their knowledge. (aka the biggest MMO ever made has not even done instanced housing)

Outside of XIV's level of furniture, that's literally what a Garrison is. It even has features like the Auctioneer and Mailbox, which is what people wish Island Sanctuary had.

I was there for the garrisons in WoW. They were anything but "mastering the art" of doing instanced housing. There was practically no customization outside of very specific unique preset things you could select, and people just sat in them while waiting to queue for things. I'm not sure how practical it would be to search things back in time, but if you check out what people were saying about garrisons, it was that it wasn't anything like actual housing that players had been clamoring for. FFXIV itself allows you to do almost infinitely more with their houses, while garrisons would be the equivalent of IS in terms of what you could actually do with them.
