it shouldnt be a limited resource. even free 2 play games dont have this issue. the only reason for this limit is their CEO's greed.
best sold expansion ever. time to invest in your game instead of giving us the bare minimum of what they can get away with

I mean, it sucks that housing demo is a thing but this is the exact thing they use to keep people subbed. One of my friends hasn't played the game in like, 2 years but still logs in once a month to keep his medium plot. Even though he's not actively playing the game, he's giving Square $15 every month, so they really aren't going to care how he feels about the game or if he's playing it.
house demolition should only start once every plot is taken anyway. on my servers theres tons and tons of empty plots available. yet we still have demolition.
Thanks for the heads upHuh? They are paused.

"People should be nice to one another"
"We should take care of the earth"
"Housing in FFXIV shouldn't be a limited resource"
Those are all great things, but they're not reality, and SE has no reason to change it at this point. Look how nervous they are about making really ANY big changes to existing systems that could make them more money, let alone systems that directly benefit their wallet.
While I don't have anything sentimental like you do, I do have a large personal and an FC with fully kitted out submersibles, the FC itself getting passed to me because by default because the FC died out some 6 years ago. That they make it a limited resource when every other game out there has mastered the art of instanced housing for a decade, does kind of imply that they want this situation where players are held hostage by sunk cost, so that puts it back on them though.
It is not just the house, it is all the hours, days, weeks of furnishing, or if it is a small FC house, something you and your friends may have been putting work into it every day for a year to level up airships and submersibles. People will not lightly unsub if it means losing something that took a year to build up and the memories of everyone's effort for it, and will take a year of work again to get again if you should return in the future.
Sentimental tokens we can ill afford to see lost forever, matter.
I have a friend list that still includes the character of a dear friend who was taken by cancer over a year ago, and I know I can never move my character to another data center without my Friend list getting wiped, and I will never get my friend back on there.
When the choice they give you is, "Keep paying even when this game is no longer worth the sub fee, or you will lose things you care about forever.", then of course there are people that are going to feel like it is a hostage situation!
If I quit not only would I lose a large personal on one of the most populated servers of one of the most populated DC's, but I'd lose a passive ~800k gil every 2 days that took me something around the ballpark of 6-8 months to get set up and running. Hell, I don't even know if the submersibles persist if the FC house gets demo'd or if I'd have to start over entirely and spend 6-8 months to get it up and running.
At best I can sub and login every other month since I believe demolition takes 45 days
Watching forum drama be like
honestly just unsub, take the L on the house (it's really not a big deal, youll see). dont let their gimmicks empty your pockets if youre unhappy.
I mean, they probably know some people's subs are held hostage by housing. It's by design.
Especially now that DT had a lukewarm reception, gotta keep those numbers up somehow...
