Please Change Red Mage's Displacement so it is more useful

Displacement is practically 100% useless currently because it puts you out of melee range, has significant animation lock, and deals equal damage to Engagement. This means that, for damage purposes, Engagement is objectively 100% better.

Displacement is also hard-pressed to find a great deal of use for movement because it deals damage, meaning that it is much more difficult to save it for specific mechanics, especially when all mechanics you could use it for you could also move out of normally, meaning if using Displacement for movement loses you a use of Engagement in buffs, it is almost certainly better to just move for mechanics normally.

Personally I love the flair of Displacement and thought it was very cool when Red Mage was first revealed.

Could we please either a) decouple it from engagement and make it not deal damage so that it can solely be used as a reliable movement tool or b) give it a small bit of additional potency so that players are encouraged (but not required) to take advantage of it to maximize their damage over Engagement

I know I stopped using displacement because back in shadowbringers with bozja there was a lot of death rings, so it wasn't exactly hard to accidentally dragoon yourself to 0hp.

Yeah, and now that pretty much every single fight (even dungeon bosses) have death walls, damage walls or just straight up death pits around the edges it makes it even worse to use even if you do happen to want to use it as a movement tool. I'm glad we're not forced to use it any more but we shouldn't be essentially punished for actually using it at all.

I'd personally like to see it stripped of it's damage component, decoupled from Engagement and possibly having it's need to be executed while targetting an enemy removed (essentially make it akin to DRG's backflip). Also shorten the backward movement a slight amount so that we're not constantly in danger of flipping to our death if we just want to use it as a movement tool. It's a cool move and a really recognizable part of RDM's visual identity but right now absolutely no one actually uses it.

I would love this change. Anything to allow me to use more backflips without actively penalizing myself or requiring a ton of foresight to determine if I'm losing damage by doing so.

Seems like the issue with the suggestion is that Engagement was specifically created as the answer to "Displacement does damage so we should be using it, but we don't want to move." Engagement was intentionally tied to Displacement to give players Displacement damage but without the jump.

That said.. movement skills with damage kinda all need to go anyway, for the very same reason of "they do damage so we should always use them.. but we don't want to move." Movement skills can be handy to have, but they're not very handy for movement if they're part of the damage rotation.

I honestly think it would be an improvement to just cut the backstep in half.
A 7-yalm backflip could have a shorter animation lock, but mostly I kind want to see something simple that lets RDM just exit melee range instantly without manually running back into ranged position.
15 is just too much, it is coin flip if you just stumble yourself into the danger jelly border.

We absolutely do not need to remove damage from all movement skills, that's very silly. Movement skills absolutely can still be handy for movement when they do damage, if they allow us to get more uptime on a melee then it is objectively better that they be used for movement.

Displacement is unique because it's a damage dealing gap CREATOR. So its uses are much, much fewer and farther between.
