Really does, doesn't it. Everything has to be filed down to the simplest possible elements to let them prattle on about hollow diversity(tm) rather than actually creating a story with nuance, shades, and complexity.

Guess it turns out Nanamo could have gotten Ul'Dah on board with a republic if she held a BBQ, huh? Gridania's racism can be cured with a parade float? I guess everything that happened in Ala Mhigo was a result of not enough diversity(tm), and gosh darnit we could have stopped Zenos if we got Varis to say 'I'm proud of you, son!'.

This entire expac's story was like Dora the Explorer meets Naruto. Simplistic to the point it can't even be called optimistic, because optimism implies there can be a negative. But no, we can't have any subtext of racial tension or Gulool Ja Ja having shades of grey to him, we can't have villains with more complexity than a Captain Planet character.

I didn't want, or expect, a huge story with world-ending threats. If we'd just had a story of searching for the Golden City with Krile and Erenville, the other Scions or local characters dipping in and out through the story as our paths cross, I would have been *thrilled*. Make the final trial fighting some giant golden statue that just... happens to be there. Not even a nemesis, just the final gate guard to the Golden City.

Instead I got to play second fiddle to Naruto: FurAffinity edition.

And it's sad because I wanted to like Wuk Lamat. She was fresh, she seemed like she'd fit into that role Yda/Lyse used to in the Scions- the well-meaning one who's not as bright as the others, but makes up for it with gumption and gusto! One that plays off the smarter characters.

And we did. We got it force-fed to us.

Freakin' Poochie, man...
