Feedback: Dawntrail MSQ thoughts

I've seen some people confused as to why Ottis sacrifices himself to save Sphene despite her being able to hop bodies. Ottis was one of multiple volunteers to create a process for transferring both the soul and memories of a person into a new body. These are referred to as first generation endless and are separate from the system. Ottis then isolated himself for fear of scaring the princess with his new body, although that might just be a cover for some level of guilt towards not being able to save the queen. Several citizens mention that Sphene uses special gear to store her memories, so this is a common belief among her subjects.

Ottis does not appear until after Zoraal Ja demonstrates the nature of this version of Sphene. His consciousness/awareness is then suppressed by a command from Zoraal Ja before Sphene body hops back to the capital to save her people. So when he gives his all to protect Sphene, its because he genuinely believes she is a first generation endless like himself. How Zoraal Ja's command would affect Ottis who is separate from the system is the actual contradiction here.

That leaves two possibilities as to what happened to Sphene when the conservators attempted to turn her into an endless. Either they succeeded, thereby transferring BOTH soul and memories into a vessel. Or they failed, only capturing her memories. I will save us time by dismissing the later. The reason the gen one endless were not connected to the cloud was that the technology did not exist yet. That same technology is required for the current queen Sphene to function. The citizens react as though Sphene was always present and its common knowledge Sphene has "special gear" for backing up her memories. Given the limitations of the conservators at that time, Sphene must have been successfully transferred to a new vessel in both memory and soul. The tease of her crown in the ending could elude to this as well. The mystery is when did they replace that queen Sphene with the Endless Queen from the Living Memory?

There is a possibility of a fake queen Sphene or possibly her giving orders from a bed chamber where no one could see her. However, that begs the question of whether the relatively primitive technology of the conservators at the time would have been advanced enough to fool the general populace.

I think the electric shock that Otis died protected Sphene from was preventing Sphene from body hopping successfully / enacting a barrier to protect the group from the lightning. Or Otis just was living in a state of regret so deep that he was willing to die to make up for his past inability to save Sphene in the past (ie to "die happy" protecting Sphene, regardless of how necessary it was.)

I think the latter makes sense just because I got a general feeling that Otis was an embodiment of living in the past and being unable to really move on.

What we signed for was to help her become Dawnservant. And we fullfilled the deal by part one.
However we didn't signed to be Wuk Lamat lackeys. She overstay her welcome on part two.

70% of the dialog goes to Wuk Lamat. Whoever wrote this Mary Sue needs to go back to writing school. The quest were incredibly boring. Like something a new adventurer from ARR had to endure. But not something that a veteran aventurer should endure.
The game disrespected our character, disrespectedd the Scions, Disrespected every expansion before. But more importantly disrespected Krile

Imagine if in Shadowbringers. The exart accompaniedd you during the whole expansion. Doing all the talking. And even invadding your fight with Hades to give the killing blow.

That's Wuk Lamat in DT. Which make her an incredibly BORING character for no reason.

I think the OP has got it. It was too World of Warcraft. I was not immersed in the story.

I kind of hope that Yoshi P throws away this whole story arc when it comes to the next expansion.

Given an later incident in the MSQ, I get the feeling it was in fact the latter. One of the moments I can totally forgive a death that on the surface looked and felt completely pointless.

The graph that was posted earlier here showed Wuk Lamat as having by far the most lines. But as a percentage of a whole compared to lines as spoken by characters who are not Wuk Lamat it would come up to about 24% of the expansion.

I may not be a fan of that character, but that poster is right.

Wuk Lamat had no business going into Zone 6 considering who else was available. Sphene is busy doing the calculations for the apocalypse, and she wants to go lick and sniff every fricking thing in the zone. Had Sphene finished while we were riding Capybaras, eating ice cream, or running errands for people who didn't actually exist, she could have killed everyone and everything back home.

It made no sense for her to be there, and it made no sense to derp around the whole zone when we don't know how much time we have before Sphene hits the button and kills us all. It was insanely dumb.

When I got to the end of the 100 dungeon, and Wuk Lamat got trapped in a box, I left her there. I still haven't done the third trial and don't know when I will.

I wanted to spend my vacation being Azem The Traveller, not Wuk Lamat’s Mentor, especially during 95-100

Wuk Lamat is a 7k words.
Sphene is at ~3400, which makes Sphene have about half as much words spoken as Wuk Lamat. Even with only 2 characters, Wuk Lamat isn't reaching 70%.
Add every character on this graph (despite it missing multiple characters, for instance Galuf) and you reach about 24%.

You can find on Reddit the original post for this graph, where that person has never posted the source for where the count of word comes from (and never replied to my DM asking for it). It also initially lacked multiple characters, including Koana and Cahciua.

As for Alphinaud, you can find a transcript of every MSQ dialog and options on this website: https://xiv.quest/
Alphinaud comes up at over 21% in HW 3.0, when including absolutely every text of the MSQ and not only voicelines. Given multiple characters in MSQ never have voicelines, and Alphinaud spends his time harping on and on during cutscenes, you can see how he may even be higher than Wuk Lamat.


Care to substantiate YOUR claims about most people hating Wuk Lamat, or her having 70% of all dialog with some data, or are you just going to keep trolling and ragebaiting here for the time being?
