If they wanted people to not be confused, why let them dress as a chocobo for content? Or any of the other silly/fun outfits? *just to add to the point*If you earned the gear and you can wear it on any of your classes you should be able to glamour it. This BS of "oh we don't want people to get confused" is old and tired. If people get confused about what class you are by what you are wearing I guess it was too hard to hit inspect. I have healers that have plate, I have dresses for my tanks. So who cares at this point except yoshi?
That's a definite "Yes" from me. I'm looking at the new scrips gear for Crafters and Gatherers and can only sigh as they're locked to their respective class (and some of them look really good too, I'd like to use them on multiple classes!).
Dawntrail Media tour, just last month.idk when yoshi p said that but I'm sure it must have been years ago because nowadays with all the all-class glamour crafted gear and whatnot, everyone looks like everyone else
plus there is plate gear for casters/healers now, and robes for tanks
identifying jobs by their appearance has not been a thing for years. Just let people do what they want

Seriously. I saw the Fending set in Limsa and fell in love, then I was actually crestfallen when I looked it up and realized I wouldn't be able to wear it on my main jobs. Once again (see the Late Allagan sets), DoWs get power armor while DoMs get a Fortnite skin. It's so disappointing.
Again, ignoring the fact that the tome gear released for casters in EW was very armor-like, and the fact that most stuff pre-level-60 has already been changed to “All Classes.” lol unless he just immediately glams over his gear before even looking at it, and doesn’t remember that unlocking classes for gear is a thing that’s already been done before, I don’t understand how he can even make that statement. Never mind all the reskins that switch the same model outfit and lock it to a different class!
I would understand still locking AF/JSE to jobs because they embody the specific job, but for all other gear...it's time to release the glams. I would rather see mages in plate than more mascot outfits in duties anyway.
Like, again. There has never been a technical reason for locking gear. Only a job identity reason, and in most cases those excuses don't fly.In the most recent interview with Yoshi-P about glamour (which you can find in the main post of this thread), he specifically mentioned that removing glamour restrictions is technically feasible. He could have easily used technical limitations as an excuse, but he instead mentioned role identity again...
And then we have him contradict this by showcasing the new Mad Max-inspired glamour, where the healer set is a black leather jacket.
In a traditional TT RPG, or most CRPG's from the 80's and 90's, those gear restrictions have always existed. Usually it's one of two:
Player can wear everything, and there is a progression of better gear as you gain strength to wear it,
Nothing -> Cloth -> Leather -> Chain mail -> Plate Mail -> Magic/Tech gear
or
Class-locked
Tank-type characters, basically anyone using a 2handed sword/claymore/etc or 1 handed sword+shield can wear all armor types
DPS Strength types 1-handed sword without shield, use anything up to chain mail, and can't use plate mail/magic gear
DPS Dexterity(Thief/archer)-types and DPS ranged characters can only use cloth or leather, no metal or magic gear.
DPS Casters (Wizard/Sorcerer) that use destructive magic only use cloth
Healer types (Cleric(priest)/Druid) only use cloth (being casters), but have had the loosest gear interpretations, ranging from cloth/leather/chain to "everything but comes at a cost"
The overall idea is that the only thing that should keep one class from wearing another class's gear is the ability to wear it in the first place. So if you remove the class lock, then you simply have the underlying level or strength requirement. There is no logical reason why a tank CAN NOT wear cloth, but there is every reason to say a Caster can not wear Tank gear.
Which just comes back to the entire reason why MMO CRPG's should separate the appearance of gear from the underlying stats. Only in a MMO do people make decisions based on how things look rather than how things function, because if they're going to be playing a game for 300 hours, they don't want to be stuck looking at the ugliest gear during the cutscenes.
Square Enix should be focusing on giving us better "different" gear rather than making 5 sets of gear per expansion that users are immediately going to glamor over. The fact that they've reused gear a few times just highlights that the "green" dungeon drops are just there to be glamored over, since you can't dye it.
If I leveled a job that meets the requirements to equip it, let me use it as glamour; AF gear included.

That's the one part where I am on Yoshida's side when it comes to the whole "Job Identity" reasoning. A Black Mage has no business wearing Dragoon gear. All leveling gear is fair game, but AF Gear should stay off limits and only be wearable by the corresponding Job.
the existence of store gear (which even has plate sets), and other strange costumes, or being naked... I don't think "iconic silhouettes" is compelling anymore. Besides each job has a unique animation set and weapon and that's iconic enough to tell you what someone is just by their posture!
Universal armor glamour please!![]()
