I watched it again. You are right it was a statement after the limit break. I remembered wrong.
Then I guess they changed it because the Encyclopedia entries always have the word aether. While these books are written as "ingame knowlege" these parts about the abilities of the classes read as actual experiences from the jobs themself with Bard even going so far as to mention who inventet the LB.
Not that it's bad mind you. Dynamis is just as good as an explanation but they have to be careful not to overuse it.
The scene with Wuk Lamat for example, while itself not a horrible idea was really over the top. If she had just used an LB 2 or, like another poster said, struggled actually then the problem would not have been so big.
Getting stronger then teh WoL though is just bullshit.

His only special trait is that he can punch and kick good and also that he can kill trash mobs (Sin eaters), big deal.
I Always took that as him having so much experience that he could actually stand toe to toe with us for a time.
In our second encounter we whooped his butt. We werent even really losing the first time either.

To this day I don't get why we kept running away from him thoughout the zones.

Usually Limit Breaks are aether based, on Endsinger fight was because they were outside of the planet at the End of the Universe were dynamis were up to crazy levels. 1 Aether being equal for example to 100 Dynamis doesnt matter when you are in a place of an absurd ammount of dynamis, the very same reason Meteion caused the final days by the dynamis getting through the parts of the planet where the aether concentration were thinner and expand gradually

Ran'jit wasnt that strong but he was a tricky oponent combined with the use of Gukumatz. On the first fight he catches everyone offguard, on the second fight you can already hold your own since you are getting acustomed to his style, to the point that Thancred is barely able to beat him in 1vs1 soon after, while the WoL just crushes him since his hand is completely revealed and doesnt have anything left on his sleeve.

Ran'jit imo had an style suited to assasinations which means that he was extremely deadly on the first encounter but he becomes less dangerous the more he reveals his combat style while his oponents are still alive

I actually like this explanation, I still want to drop kick Ranjit into the sun, but it's a good explanation

Think of Ran'jit like Souichirou Kuzuki from Fate: Hes basically a trained assasin that with Caster enhancements is able to almost kill Saber that she is completely superior to him, but even himself stated that it wouldnt work on her again.

Ran'jit is skilled and with TONS of experience but stat wise the WoL is a bit stronger since the start and that gulf becomes even bigger when he does his last stand against the WoL when he no longer have anything left to use while the WoL kept improving themselves
