This time around the last boss didn't really need that last part, along with a "sad" send-off.

Zenos wanted happiness, Emet wanted to test us, Meteion needed her clinically depressed sisters wiped out. Sphene had sworn to kill us all and erased her compassion in that pursuit.

I know SE isn't keen on killing off characters any more but I would be filled with such joy if she was removed from the game now and forever more.

The final trial is such an emotional rollercoaster for all the wrong reasons.

The fact that it's really obvious for everyone what scenes she had a hand is very telling about the rest of the story. It's like taking a breath of fresh air whenever they come up and it feels like I'm actually playing one of my favorite games, FFXIV, again. She is very much missed, I hope they figure out how to bring back the same magic she brings to rest of the story. ;_;

Also I just realized Wuk Lamat is just this meme and sums up why I dislike her:

Agreed on all counts; Ishikawa wrote actual art on occasion, and I miss that.

I love that meme, and it's funny, in RPGs with a lot of options, I often play as close to that meme as can be, it's fun to me, let's talk out everything, let me recruit everyone. I set up my WOL as that kind of character, too, in principle. He accepted Zenos's friendship proposal at the end of Stormblood, he expects to give Amon the 50th chance when they meet again, he's that kind. And yet, this expansion was too much, too unearned, too naive espcially with Sphene - and the thing was that we didn't even have the say in it, we didn't get to be the centrist liberal debating the enemies, we didn't build a questionable personal connection with the world-destroying AI, Wuk Lamat did, and with that I was unengaged anyway.

The final trial really was so awful, and it keeps going on, I never want to sit through this again. If there was an option to exclude it from future roulettes, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Gaia coming in was topical, plot-relevant and charming.
Zenos coming to help us last minute was fun and awesome, foreshadowed before, and he says also very fun and quotable lines expressing his confidence in us at the edge of the world faced with the impersonation of despair, lends us some aid and then trusts us to finish her off because we're his respected sparring friend.
Emet helping out is foreshadowed in his attitude, internally coherent with his characterisation, motivation and emotions, also plot-relevant and a very cool moment, he helps us out of a situation that's his personal specialty as the Minister of Afterlife Matters, and then he also trusts us to continue and handle this as ourselves.
They're all welcome. These are people's favourite moments for a reason.

This here? A tacky copy of a formula that doesn't and can't apply here, simply because Wuk Lamat has to be there, and someone apparently really thought people would cheer upon seeing her barge in yet again. Whoever is responsible for this doesn't understand the first thing about what made the story and story-gameplay integration up to Endwalker work the way it did.
