I don't see the generals teaming up for a battle, wouldnt a general prefer to have members of his own division beside him?

My vote is on Darnus (7th Umbral era and all that)

I assume its all a setpiece. Kill Darnus in 1.23. No one left to control Meteor. Meteor goes haywire causing radical changes to whole world and not just mor dhona?

Quick Q: Roadmaps indicate radical changes to world are coming in 1.23 or after? no 1.24 patch mentioned?

Sounds kinda like the latest expansion to WoW or Abysses in FFXI.

Yes... there is no 1.24...
1.23... and then probably 1.23a, maybe even 1.23b or 1.23c but that its just 2.0 all the way
