I'd like to, on the game's final expansion, see the WoL truly rejoined. 14/14 shards, back to the original Azem, somehow.
At least I could feel the world, as the game closes, will forever watched over by its guardian.

(Not that I think the game has to end- they can still do a lot with it. More shards and we can also space travel, so more worlds)

Wanna start a betting pool? I still have my wild guess that we ARE Azem. Once everything is over and done with, and we're fully rejoined, we (for whatever reason) travel back in time to assume the post on the Council. Which is why Azem apparently seemed to know things he shouldn't have.

The thing about the WOL is that they love to help people and travel. Those are their two core, defining features (at least from a canon perspective). I would have appreciated the the laid back nature of the expac if we weren't babysitting the entire time and were doing actual fun things to build up the world around us.

Helping the locals solve problems instead of going there to do the feats, for one. We know the WOL isn't going to have any issues taking on the tasks but I still like the prospect of being unknown in our stature as we do what we do best. It would be more refreshing then the world coming at us time and time again to use as a tool to slay their enemies...which is what this expac was going for but severely missed its mark.

There's nothing wrong with being a companion in another NPC's story, so long as we still have some agency and the NPC is likeable. I was temporarily happier when we left the first part of the story for new climes, new people, new companions that could, reasonably, hold their own.

Alternatively, it hasn't been fully explored but, we're the Savior of the Star, killed literal Gods, Demons, and Royalty alike. Why not explore the negative side of being the greatest hero in history? Why not have enemies we've made in the past scheme to try and hurt or harm us through other means (such as attacking friends and loved ones). Why not have challenger after challenger approach us for fights? Have nations attempt to persuade us to joining them to settle disputes or coerce them to bending the knee? There's so much more political drama an intrigue that can be had with a character this way.

We've saved the world, now what? Surely not everyone in the world can see us the same way.

(Also I wholly agree with the point about the Azem Crystal. It's over stayed its welcome and should have gone at the end of SHB. There's no reason to have it if we have bonifide other means of gathering travelling companions for a fight AND it cheapens the ending of SHB even more by its continual use.)
