Also i would disagree that its childish, its a protest and a peaceful one at that. Which is a consequence of years of neglect.
I only joined the forum recently but i did read older healer threads. Years of feedback multiple expansions worth of it and nothing. Not even acknowledgement and a answer towards it.
Edit: Of course there are bad eggs and rude people. They exist on both sides. But those dont affect the core tenant or history and reason for the protest.

I do not think there is room for good or compelling game design in a world where maintaining a company's bottom line is the only priority.
Sure, it's reality. I tell people that all the time with other games and franchises like Zelda. I like BotW and I like old Zelda gameplay and dungeon design. BotW sells more, it's just business.
Guilty Gear Strive sells well, it's just business. I have praises and gripes. I prefer +R. I can go play +R, I can boot up Ocarina of Time.
I can't play old versions of FFXIV. FFXIV is my favorite game.
Even if I'm in the niche, and my opinion rubs others the wrong way, I'd like to go to bat for my favorite game and hold out for the chance to see design that isn't afraid to be something.
Games made for everyone are made for no one.
FFXIV increasingly feels like one of those games and I don't like it.
If your only response is "well the bottom line" or "go play something else" then I hope I've sufficiently replied to those already with my above statements. I don't care and no thank you.
And while I don't want to actually aggravate anyone, I don't like the idea that I'm supposed to worry about stepping on the toes of people I disagree with or risk being called vitriolic or accused of trolling.
Also, I don't care how you play your job. If you don't want to DPS as a healer, I don't agree, but I did not mean for the statement "Healers are expected to DPS" to be controversial or accusatory. I don't care if other people even do their Tank or DPS rotations correctly. I really don't.
My favorite groups to get in FFXIV are people who want to explore the ARR/HW/etc dungeons, open chests, wipe to avoidable damage, not know mechanics. Even when I'm not healing. I really love this game. I can't even say I care if we finish the content as long as the group seems to be having a good time.
I think the current game design is so scared of players having any basis on which to criticize each other than they've trapped themselves. I do not think we need an in game DPS meter. But I think they realized people will criticize each other's gameplay regardless and look for ways to reduce the differences between how people can experience and play the game in order to keep players from getting frustrated with each other, and I think that's a fool's errand.
I liked 1.0 because I have fond memories with it, yes it was a commercial failure and a flop to the masses, but it kept me and my then boyfriend now husband in contact and doing things together because he was away working and I was in and out of hospital for treatment for almost 10 years, but subjectively my opinion is wrong because the masses deem it so.
Then why worry about stepping on toes, why be concerned about being liked by someone you may potentially never meet, you are only restricting yourself here, personally I dont care what you all think about me, I'd rather say what I need to say rather than worry about hurting some random internet strangers fee fee's..And while I don't want to actually aggravate anyone, I don't like the idea that I'm supposed to worry about stepping on the toes of people I disagree with or risk being called vitriolic or accused of trolling.

You'll find most of the people actually criticizing DPS are the ones who more than most likely have a DPS meter installed, if someone tells me how to play i will report/block them for potential breaking of the ToS, f em.

To add, i genuinely do not care for anyone in this game unless they are my friends/fc whome I know irl and my husband, everyone else is just an extra, but this is not to say I don't know basic politeness, if we can have a polite interaction in game and part ways thats fine but dont expect me to care or respect your opinions as I hope you don't care for mine should I choose to share them which generally I don't.

Why are some people against healers asking for more dps buttons? Tanks have more dps buttons too. If someone doesn't want to use any new dps buttons as a healer, they can still do that just like they can already ignore the few existing dps buttons. Nothing would change for those who just want to heal in dungeons.
Because quite simply a lot of healers cannot be trusted with it, I already have heard complaints from Tanks/DPS for the healer not doing their job and instead just DPS'n why encourage this behavior?
If you want to DPS play a DPS class if you play a healer Heal it is your role but when you have downtime feel free to use your limited DPS abilities to do some damage or stand there until you need to heal again that is also fine.
I also have pointless anecdotes about tanks who laser focus DPS and never press their mitigation, you are from ARR surely you remember the times the tanks would just sit in DPS stance and go “stuff you healer heal me”
Why do we lobotomise 1 role when all roles are guilty of the sin of having bad players play them
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
All roles have been equally lobotomized as you so delicately put it, all roles have had abilities stripped away or merged into other skills healers are not the only victims here but you seem to play the victim card the loudest, im SMN's case everyone hates it, Tanks can no longer switch to a DPS stance so they have had their damage permanently nerfed, I don't think I've seen as such a big uproar over it and don't count on 8.0 being any jobs savior if thats what you're hoping as I can see VPR and PCT being the idea they bring forward for all jobs and have abilities change on 1 button.
I need to clarify something... I didn't mean to say that dps meters were allowed. They are not allowed and against ToS. Here is a link for anyone that wants to read it. I don't know if it still applies since it was 3 years ago.
