Because silly cat....leveling is NOT the [point of an rpg OR an MMO,No, Jake. It's not about taking forever. It's about it requiring just enough time to be able to appreciate your progression. And by progression, I mean the trip from Lv1 to cap. I'll say again, if you find that trip boring or useless, then why play an RPG? Or, at least what is supposed to be an RPG?
leveling is a byproduct of those genres...
if you think leveling is the only content, then you are really missing out on the real fun.
At what point did I give any inclination that gaining levels was the "only content"? Sorry, you're wrong; Gaining levels virtually define the difference between an RPG and an action game.

The point you made was quite clear:
If you don't like the TRIP (defined by you as the leveling from 1 to cap) then why play an RPG.
So that answers your first question....
Now what defines a RPG?
Well just off the top of my head....ROLE PLAYING GAME!!!!!!
You play a role, you take on a persona and "act" as that character, you become invested in the character's trials and adventure, and the world and setting.....
This can all be done (and has been done, numerous times) in RPG's without any leveling mechanic.
Becuase RPGs have lots of other fun things in them that have nothing to do with grinding levels. If you don't like the TRIP (defined by you as the leveling from 1 to cap) then why play an RPG.
I know of very few people who truly enjoy the experience of grinding for hours on end.
Leveling up the first time is kind of fun, but for the rest of your classes, you'd rather it not take longer than necessary.

Totally biased post. Lol yeah, like Everyone plays 24/7 to Max the game in a month..Like this post if you like how the game is now
~Very fast leveling (Can literally cap a job inside of a week)
~Mob clusters of weaker enemies (Which forces PT's into a mobile set up and breaks the Puller mode)
~Gil Penality only for Deaths (Which is so inflated it hardly even matters)
~Current Job system and the ablity to change on the fly instead of being requried to head to a Moogle (Meaning all new jobs will be released as Basic->Advanced version with Classic FF names being the work too)
~Lack of distingiveness between Jobs outside of combat. (This also ties into the retention of the Anima system Vs. Whm Teleport bartering)
~Market Ward system as it lays
Or do you enjoy the state we're in now and the ablity to just 'jump' in and start doing endgame within a month? Each new expansion will be consumed and conquered inside of a few days and the only thing left to you will be endless raid runs and .001% drop rates.
1) level cap is 99 nowor the possibly minimal (just guessing) 2 weeks to 75 in FFXI?
2) you can level 1-99 in 24-48 hours tops
FFXI is faster to level now than XIV is.
This soooooo much I had to +1 it. Now let me say, I love the trip to cap. I hope it takes a while and I learn many things on my trip to cap. For my first class. After my first class I have little if any interest in grinding another class, if not only because I want some variety for endgame content. Endgame is where I want to be occupied and where 80% of my time should be occupied(with 20% or so going to other activities)
Honestly sometimes I wish I only had to lvl up "my character" and not my characters classes, and I just quest or something to unlock other classes and abilities.
that is exactly the point I don't understand.... why something need to be tedious to label it "fun".No, Jake. It's not about taking forever. It's about it requiring just enough time to be able to appreciate your progression. And by progression, I mean the trip from Lv1 to cap. I'll say again, if you find that trip boring or useless, then why play an RPG? Or, at least what is supposed to be an RPG?
They just need to do casual AND time consuming content. Having to dodge in Boyahda Tree sprout for days to level evasion skill, or camp LoO for KC for days to get screwed over by a 0.01% drop rate should not be mendatory, should be an option...
But there is no point in doing aFFXI-2....it was "fun" but had tons of flaw and the number of people playing it proved it....
this is something to aim for, or make it a bit longer...
What is not wanted is lvling to 75 in FFXI in the prime of the game, where you could only lvl with PL, LS if you ever wanted t lvl pass 20 on half the jobs, in like forever...
And I am not getting in static camp and all those other mombo jumbo I don't wanna see ever again...
Your first lvl cap should be an experience, after that....it's all about the content...not the constant grind...
