I think you need to ignore real world etymology being used in FFXIV or else you'll open up a whole can of worms.

We have Hollandaise sauce but no Holland for example.

On this particular matter I would disagree, because this world absolutely does have the number "fourteen" and it does have "nights". A fortnight should still be fourteen nights, even if weeks are eight days long.

Nonetheless, it's the word the game uses to describe two weeks; the same way it refers to its eight day week as a "sennight", despite the word literally meaning "seven nights".
