The lalafell in that scene being Krile's biological parents is a very plausable theory I admit, but I don't really agree they're from another Shard (we know cross-shard travel is almost impossible, the Ascians certainly believed so - just to get to the First we had to use the core of an alien dimension-hopping warmachina and the components of a dead time-travelling Primal to turn the Crystal Tower into the Crystal TARDIS, and travel to the Thirteenth is also tricky due to the instability of Voidgates), and if the people of the Twelfth did happen to find a way to travel to the Source, the Ascians would have found out about it and would have used it for their own ends, but they never did). So, I doubt very much Solution 9 is an extradimensional society that found a way to the Source, as it would contradict everything we've already learned.

I'm more leaning to either an Allagan-survivor offshoot that is no longer really 'Allag' but their own society after several thousand years (hence allowing Yoshi plausible deniability when he said it "isn't Allag"), or some other earlier society set up by the Ascians and then forgotten about, hence their also apparently beligirent nature, possessing miltary forces. But, as they say, we'll find out in a few weeks.

I've been on a roller coaster with this theory. My very first impression was to look at the square glyphs S9 uses on 50% of their stuff and think, "Reminds me of Labyrinth of the Ancients." But I abandoned that logic almost immediately because the color palette was wrong (closer to Mhach, even), there were no hexagons, the construction materials weren't even close. There seemed to be nothing to say, "there's a line, here".

Except now we have proto-language as something that descended from Ancient times and there's an interruption post-Allag that explains how we get to modern Eorzean. And in the most recent trailer we saw 3 examples of hexagonal motifs and Allagan-like construction materials in a couple places. Especially the portal itself.

Now I'm sitting here thinking about how we've been joking about The Return of the Space Allagans since 2014 and thinking... "Could it be...? Nah. ... But could it?"

What if the Enigmatic Maiden is an Ascian and she helped ferry people over to the Source from the 12th?
