Unable to use Visa debit (north American)

Please allow me to share our latest news update that was recently posted on the NA Lodestone regarding the Visa Debit issue in North America.

Following our investigation into the inability to use Visa Debit cards after the payment processor switch in April 2024, we are pleased to announce that we will be implementing adjustments which will once again enable Visa Debit as a payment option for customers in North America.

The adjustments are currently targeted for release in July 2024, and we will provide a more specific date as we move closer to implementation.

In the meantime, we would like to take this opportunity to remind customers that other payment options are available, such as Crysta (which can be purchased via Amazon Pay or PayPal), Amazon Pay (for online store purchases), or game time codes available from various online retailers, including the Square Enix Store.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused and appreciate your patience as the teams work to test and implement the required adjustments.

Is it really this common for NA players to not have several methods of payment? I have VISA Debit/Credit, MC Debit/Credit, Discover Debit/Credit, AMEX Debit/Credit, Paypal, access to time cards, and all of these are available at a grocery store less than 5 minutes from my house in Colorado. If you’re locked out of all of these methods you might have larger issues than an XIV sub.

Edit: Paysafe and Amazon too.

Personally, I don't have a reason to carry 10 different methods of payment. I've been using my bank account debit cards for 20 years and I've never had a situation where I can't use it. Until now.

It sounds as though you are referring to a variety of prepaid debit/credit cards purchased from a store, which theoretically would work as payment but I haven't tried it myself. I do know that generally speaking, those can have issues with anything that requires a matching address or zip code on your account. I don't know if XIV's system is that particular.

I don't think it's unreasonable for a person to expect a Visa Debit card associated with their bank account to properly function as payment.

Hopefully this gets resolved with that latest announcement. It's been a couple of years since I played this game and I'm enjoying it again, but the Mog Station was already a joke, and now it's nearly unfunctional. I had no problem using Crysta, but I'm also not tied to this game. Blizzard's next expansion is about to hit and they have no problem taking our money. Picked one hell of a time for there to be payment issues. lol

I had issues updating my visa debit (card expired, couldn't put new one even though only the expire date changed), so I bought Crysta via Amazon pay and everything worked. If your sub expires before the fix in July they announced today, I recommend doing that if you don't have access to a credit card, or if you have an address issue. You can also purchase game time cards on Newegg (usually for a discount too), or the Square Enix store, and you can use those (you have to wait until your sub is actually expired to apply them though), though they wont include extra retainers, while using Crysta will.

If my mortgage or student loan lender says they will no longer take payments from X bank or vendor, or become unable to, I adjust my bank/vendor. I don’t complain to the lender about it, and they absolutely won’t make a single concession to me over it.

I don't have credit cards because I don't want credit cards.

So Visa Debit issues are meant to be getting fixed for NA but still nothing regarding fixing it for EU players?

I think they did a post on the EU lodestone as well with the same timeframe for a fix.
