Considering the effort they took to separate healers into 2 types and "balance" them in two separate sub-roles, I doubt we'll ever get new healers. And then considering that there's always an equal number of healers to tanks in parties (and fewer tanks in alliance raids), it would be weird if they introduce a 5th tank but leave the number of healers permanently at 4.
Honestly, after we reach level 100 the thing the game needs most is for the gameplay devs to sit back and overhaul the whole thing for the next expansion after Dawntrail instead of getting new jobs. MCH feels disjointed, DRKs have constantly been in a crisis, SMN's overhaul fixed the class fantasy but feels a bit sanitized for lack of a better word, and the physical ranged DPS aren't balanced well against each other to give them real identities. Tanks could use a healer-level role overhaul, role abilities need to be thrown out and replaced with the previous job-unique versions for better job identity, and the melee DPS could use a bit of differentiation between them other than having different armor sets. Pets have been steadily nerfed every single expansion to the point where they may as well not exist and the devs have complained about balancing them (though after watching my Ifrit-egi slowly move to the enemy to do his stupid attack and then immediately turn back instead of attacking the next one after it dies before it gets there, I have to agree with the devs that pets don't really have a place in this game).
Uniqueness has been thrown away in the face of having now over 20 jobs to balance against each other and adding more will only making things worse, not better.
I would much rather the game concentrate on fixing and making better what we already have instead of tossing in two new jobs and leaving all the others with the same complaints people have had for multiple expansions. I think better gameplay will bring more players to the game than "level 110 and 2 new jobs". An actual concentrated effort to sit down, read, and analyze player feedback from all regions that has been out there for multiple expansions unanswered and some transparent back and forth sessions would go a very long way.

I don't think that's right, though... We will remain at level 100, as they announced, and we might get less jobs, but having many classes to choose from is part of the appeal of XIV. XI already had that, but XIV made it an even bigger focus. Additionnally, your argument about ranged physical seem pretty nonsensical to me, as they are all really different, as the casters are, both in mechanics and aesthetics. The classes that play and feel too similar are mostly melee dps, especially since Viper and Reaper seem really close to each other.
Still, even considering Viper and Reaper being really similar in some aspects, I don't think any of those two will complain that much about it, because the two jobs have very different flavors. What the game needs, in my opinion, is not every job having a distinct identity, it's every job having the identity that fits its aesthetics and narrative theme.
And to be honest, even though all classes must abide by the 2min rule, they make a really convincing job at giving every job its mechanics and balance them. If they want to do more in that aspect, by all means, but I do think the forums overdramatize the similarities between the jobs.

I really hope they add a fifth healer only because I want to see what that will do with the sacred pure/barrier split. I would vote give AST its sects back, but that's not happening.

We already have over 20 jobs as of Dawntrail, I don't think not having 2 more in the expansion after that one will be missed in the larger scheme of things.
As far as ranged physical goes, we have a full support, a half support, and a "selfish" DPS but the role as a whole doesn't seem to have an identity other than "some support and 1 doesn't really I guess". MCH is also supposed to be more selfish but I don't think it's putting out the same numbers that BLM and SAM are so I'm not exactly sure why you'd necessarily decide to take one over a bard or a dancer. MCH used to have some support abilities though not as much as BRD, but then they removed TP and they changed how MP works and got rid of the turrets.
Right now it feels like every job in the game is "DPS but also does this other thing" with healing and tanking being tacked onto a DPS rotation. Which makes it even harder for the role of ranged physical DPS to assert itself as "support-focused", especially when one of its jobs isn't. Things may have changed since then, but at least back when I last raided DNC was much more heavily preferred over the other 2 and they didn't seem like they were balanced well enough for all to be equals among each other. They individually have identities but the role as a whole does not. It just feels like "the one job you want in a party because they help the team the most, and the two other ones". Back in Stormblood, BRD was such a good supporter that MCH might as well not have existed. MP song + piercing debuff for DRG was enough to unbalance the duo and make one much more appealing than the other. And with both of those gone, it feels like DNC is about the same way.
And like I had mentioned above, I think the melees need to be made to be different from each other besides having different armor sets. But I don't want them to end up in their own bubbles where 1 is much better than the other like where I feel ranged physical is right now.

I agree with this so much, Infact i hate how this is a "sub category" it's baffling how anyone thinks this is a reason to add more melee's into the game, I really dont think we need more melee's for a while. All it actually does serve is to functionally make maining melee less flexible with switching jobs
But then again I don't really think we need any new jobs.. until the existing ones are largely fixed
I'm so done with stating ehich new job(s) I'd like to see; square enix will always "play the contrarian," just for tbe sake of playing the contrarian. We have better luck not asking for the jobs and weapon types that we want to see added.

As much as folks want to see less jobs and more depth to current jobs, multiple jobs is basically FFXIV's meat and popotoes and kills 2 bird with 1 stone;
• Not many other Mmos have the option to change out classes/roles on a single character.
• They can basically ignore "builds/trees/augments" since you can just change jobs to fit w/e role.
And I understand folks may have time restraints or role anxiety but you do really hamper yourself when you play a single job in FFXIV...

This is the first time I'm hearing that we won't progress beyond level 100... what happens then?
For a ranged DPS class, I'd love a ranger. I know Yoship said no more pet classes, but I'd love to fight alongside wild animals... wolfs, eagles and the like (think Dragon Age Origins), together with traps and poisons. Give me my bow without the harp or guitar.
Would love to see a battlemage-style tank but I feel like DRK is the closest they'll get to that. Wasn't there a class that used runes? Rune fencer or something? (I haven't played any other FF's aside from 1, 7, 14 and 16).
Lot of folks want a tank with a big hulking hammer. Lots of folks want a chemist. I feel like if they can do pictomancer and what they did with paint, they can do with chemist.
I'd love to see a Druid class in game as support. Yes I've been playing a lot of Baldurs Gate 3.
"We want bunny suits for guys!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Ishgard housing!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Viera!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Cloud's motorcycle!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.

YoshiP mentioned a possible alternate progression system in expansions after dawntrail but hasn't said what it would be. They might do a job point/job master system or master levels similar to ff11 or some other form of leveling instead of going beyond level 100. But it's also possible YoshiP will change his mind and just keep increasing levels beyond 100.
That is when the true Vana'diel of legend will be reborn.
