New scholar changes are not great

It's bad enough that the gameplay sucks but still has pretty visuals that convey the job fantasy. But you can't even have that in the new expansion.

Military tactician, academic, fairy is already overloaded enough as a job theme so why add more elements into it? I thought SE is done massacring the role in EW but nope, can't even have coherent visuals anymore. This really is the straw that broke the camel's back for me. It's inconsequential in the grand scheme of things but it just feels like mockery at this point.

Who are they appealing with this change? Casuals care about the lore, which part of "church gown chicken wing angel" fits the Nymian lore? High-end raiders didn't need another heal so who is it for? People who don't care about anything and just want to see pretty effects? People who want to slap on wings to anything like some cheap P2W MMO? There's a 100 ways SE can make the role worse that wouldn't even make me blink at this point but they somehow engineered the one that just makes SCH worse for me. I thought about writing a long review on how this shit is visual nightmare but honestly why should I care about the job when the devs clearly doesn't.

I am not a SCH main, but I like playing it and was thinking of changing over from AST to it. I do like the Seraphim transformation in concept, but the execution feels off. Like, if they made it so the transformation was a union between the WOL and Eos/Selene (Dragon Ball style), aka you looked like yourself(racial traits included), but with the Eos/Selene appearance, or just a more fairy like appearance.
With the current iteration of Seraphim I feel like they wanted an angel type transformation to compensate for the RPR's demon type transformation. But WHM was already done, so they went to give it to SCH.
I find it funny how they said they are planning to fixate into the job identity with 8.0 and forward, but fell off on SCH by giving them an identity crisis.

It is a means to an end for the military strategist. His supportive spells were lacking direct healing that's why they have fairies to aid them.

Agreed. I like Scholar because of the combat tactician aesthetic we had all the way through the jobs storyline. Magical girl transforming into an angel completely ruins the class fantasy.

I guess I'll look at Sage for Dawntrail. Never gravitated from Scholar outside of leveling White Mage for a pure healer because I loved not being just a 'mage' and getting up close for my AoE spamming on the go.

1. Angel feathers is the ability of seraph (esper/summon) from ff6.
1b. personal limit breaks were a heavensward thing.
2. the level 60 white mage artefact weapon, seraph cane, is called seraph cane and has a seraph on it.
3. if you consider the amdapor archetecture and golemancy in lost city of amdapor (hard), there's a clear angelic bent.
4. every angel mention either of us has brought up is from heavensward specifically.

Edit: so in the expansion with heavy religious overtones both healers were given the same religious imagery. However, white mage continued using the christian/angelic theming - divine benison, plenary indulgence, afflatus rapture, temperance, liturgy (of the bell) and seraph strike. I'm not going to count miracle of nature there, as that tends to refer to more natural wonder than overt divinity. Scholar on the other hand has excogition, chain stratagem, recitation and protraction as tactical themed names, with expedient being a forced march effect that tends to have militaristic connotation. The other scholar abilities having fairy naming convention.

Yes, Scholar has overtly tactical/strategic sounding moves and a bit of lore, but the Fae aesthetic is equally part of the Scholar identity thanks to Lily.

I think it's fine for people to have a preference for the more militaristic identity, but the people around here claiming that the Fae or angelic side of Scholar's identity is out of left field or misplaced are disillusioned. It has been just as much a part of the Scholar's identity since Day 1.

One can make an argument that perhaps this expansion is leaning a bit too much on the Fae side and not enough, or at all, on the tactician side, but saying the Fae side has no business existing at all is ridiculous.

Where I draw the line is conflating "fae" with "angelic". I am perhaps not as well read as fulminating, but I am… curious why FFXIV can't seem to consistently separate WHM from SCH here. WHM has Seraph strike in PvP, but SCH calls upon Seraph in PvE. Etc.

Each job needs to have a lane and stick to it.
