A custom hello/goodbye message macro is fine. But if you want to say something funny during a duty, you can't just hit the "funny macro" button, you wait for something to happen that you can comment on that people can laugh at, because good comedy requires context and timing. I've seen some great comments in chat during roulettes that genuinely made me laugh and made my night, but I can guarantee you they were never once a macro, they were comments someone typed on the fly that only made sense and were funny in that specific context.
I mean, I guess I could just put my controller down in the middle of combat to explain to the sprouts that my asylum is not an enemy aoe but a regen and buff heals while they are in it. Or to explain to the new healer how Living Dead works, instead of having 1 line of chat that not only explain what to do but make some people chuckle. You're right. I should cause wipes to talk about it after, instead of using the tools at my disposal to make life better and easier for those around me. How foolish of me. lmao

If you need to explain to another player that asylum isn't an enemy AOE or how Living Dead works, then you have bigger problems here that a macro isn't going to solve. That "explain how my abilities work" macro is going to come off as condescending and passive aggressive to the vast majority of players. If someone is really new and needs some help, then yes, I will set down my controller to type a message to explain something and ask if they're still confused or need any help. It's fine to have a wipe and then take a moment afterward to talk about it. A wipe isn't a failure, it's normal and expected for players encountering new content for the first time.

In my experience people learn way better when they don't get bombed with a wall of text which explains every little detail. After the wipe you can focus on the stuff they actually didn't understand. So yes, I often pull a fight with the intention to wipe it and then I explain mechanics. It's also easier to understand when you have seen it before.

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.

Bro we are in the middle of another sproutpocalypse right now. Most low level people know jack. Guess who I get to party with while I'm leveling up all these jobs and classes? SPROUTS! YAAAY. Might as well make this fun, otherwise I'll just be negative and jaded like a lot of people. "Don't have fun or be happy, you must sweatlord hard in low level content" vibes here, way uncool.

No idea what you're trying to imply here. Trying to have fun? Yes. Trying to enjoy the game and keep it light hearted? Yes. Trying to see a more positive atmosphere and make things easier for people? Yes. Got a Problem with that?

You're willfully ignoring everyone telling you this will make people mad at you. Do with the information as you will, but don't come crying to the forums in the future if you're determined to macro all your shit.

The assertion that a line of text in chat will anger people is unfounded. These macros are commonly used for a variety of reasons. Commands like /ac living dead /p let my hp hit 0 (once) <se.10> or /ac raise <t> /p raising <t> do not bother anyone or clutter their chat. The irritation expressed here seems unwarranted. Modifying these widely used macros does not exacerbate the situation or create any issues. Those who argue otherwise may be doing so just to oppose, or they might be echoing others' sentiments. If I were to use unnecessary macros, such as a mudra macro for Raiton with /p CHIDORI!!!!! and multiple <se>, then complaints about chat congestion and irritating macros would be justified. Currently, there's an influx of new players unfamiliar with the game, and as I begin Stormblood, I encounter these newcomers frequently. Without these informative macros, much time would be spent on explanations and repetitions. It's better to use these tools to facilitate a smooth experience and maintain a cheerful atmosphere. Regardless of how others feel, I will continue to use these macros to streamline the process until I reach a level where my peers are more knowledgeable.

I have no idea where you are getting any of that in anything I have said. I have also been getting into parties with a lot of sprouts recently. It's fine. They're fine. I'll help them if they need it, otherwise I'll let them go at their own pace. Sometimes they take longer to clear a dungeon and make some mistakes. So did I when I was a sprout. Getting put in a low level dungeon with a sprout tank and having them single pull isn't that big of a deal to me, or being paired with sprout healer asking me as the tank to go a bit slower, or a dps that doesn't understand the boss' mechanics yet and dies -- everyone has to start somewhere. But somehow you seem to have taken me saying "don't use ability macros please, they get really annoying, try to talk things out with a sprout if they don't understand something," as "you're not allowed to be happy and have any fun in dungeons ever." Can't help you there. Many people have explained why ability macros are a bad idea. The core of your issue, however, seems to be that you just don't like running content with new players and harbor some disdain for them, and that's something funny macro buttons aren't going to help with, I'm afraid.
