What's the point with that quite lackluster story in Endwalker?

I enjoy that this thread is still going strong. Wonder if we'll get a dawntrail version too.

There was one made, in bad faith, a few months ago that fell off. I don't think one will be needed to this extent.

Even if DT story is worse than EW, it won't have the same impact. EW was a drastic re-adjustment to how I personally think about the story, as in, I enjoyed it before, now I don't. Many fundamental parts and mysteries of the setting were resolved outright. Some of the things people love or hate about the world of FFXIV as of 6.5 are now load-bearing pillars to the setting. Example: Person A had investment in the void plot. Void plot has now happened, and Person A didn't like it. So in any future void-adjacent story, Person A will know better than to be excited for, or at least, will have less investment in it.

If we start at "This is good." or "I don't know what I feel." and move to "I now actively dislike this.", that is more of a shock than starting from a position of "This is bad" and moving to "This is now good/better." due to negativity bias and we cannot unroll the dice of EW.

DT will be free from that baggage, but I'm not wasting my investment a second time. Fool me once, and all that.

The less relevant EW is to DT, the better. That includes any lingering feelings, or lack thereof, as well.

You put into words perfectly how Endwalker made me feel about the story. This is also the reason I hate the Endwalker alliance raids. The gods were done incredibly dirty with the ending of those, imo. I loved the raids up until the last boss in Thaleia, which ruined the whole thing for me big time.

I was really excited to finally meet them and learn about them. And then the game goes "well, we don't know what to do with these anymore, time for them to die". Basically, same thing as the incredibly stupid death of Iceheart.

I mean we do learn more about them from Deryk after they’re gone. That was actually all I expected to learn about them from the beginning because alliance raids are always pretty thin on story.

i think this is a bit too much of a pass considering the gods are like a realm reborn lore. the guardians you choose when you make your character. they hadn't been explored in a decade and it's a bit lame how they were reduced to super smash bro's characters. i guess the dev team was stretched too thin with endwalker being the QoL expansion, but i would have rather them done the gods of the realm when they had a lot more time.

but also the concept of primals started to get really boring for me. like they're not real beings, they're just manifestations of people who pray to them

Primals are extremely boring and overdone at this point, for sure. And I would agree with you about the Twelve except that they were never that important to us as characters. Choosing a patron deity never mattered, so I never cared. They never intervened in anything or played a real part in anything throughout the game (starting from ARR) and I feel their use to fill out the lore wasn’t very meaningful overall. If they were meant to be meaningful, I think it would’ve been better to have MotR play a part in the MSQ somehow.

Now one could argue Halone was meaningful in Heavensward, but her worship was turned into zealotry that ultimately didn’t have anything to do with the actual Halone. I was disappointed she didn’t seem to have an opinion one way or the other about how that was handled.
