Reddit vs. the Forums in the Graphics War of '24

Yoshi-P has stated they don't take feedback from reddit seriously or consider it

Square enix needs to come out and admit where they actually pull feedback from because it doesn’t seem to be anywhere. Reddit and twitter get outright ignored while the white knights tell people to come to the forums, people come to the forums and get radio silence while we continue to spin round the same 5 topics they refuse to acknowledge

Then people say go to the JP forums and then they seem to ignore that as well, the JP forums didn’t like Kaiten or the healer reworks or the simplicity of modern SMN, they got ignored as well


At this point just tell us to put up and shut up if they won’t take feedback from us anywhere, even their own channels

They have made changes as a direct result of feedback from all over so I would assume they look at various social media channels, they just don't announce "thank you citizen we have received your request."

I've been saying for months now that they should be sending curated surveys to get accurate direct feedback from people instead of whatever this forum has become, let alone a third party board such as Reddit or Twitter.

Have you considered holding another player's poll to determine how players feel about content? Currently when talking about content you only seem to mention clear rates or number of people participating in it, but this doesn't take into account players who do content out of obligation rather than enjoyment. While the forums do provide some feedback, it is only a small slice of players. It would be nice to know if the game's current direction is in line with what the people playing it want.

In case you're wondering, they didn't respond. Feel discouraged yet?

Youre argument is not amenable to proof and with that we talk about youre feelings.
And lets be honest here, to talk about youre feeling you need to be more respectful and friendly with people.

But i am nice.
So you have no problem with the "graphic change".
You feel there is too much focus on it?
But we are close to release and this the only thing we can give feedback here on a froum right now.
Also even if you "feel" there is no problem, more choices should not be a problem?
Sure there are some weirdos asking for "no change" but there are on all sides such special ones.
On youre side there people that say "we dont see" changes and that is a statement, that indicates a serouis medical problem or a behavior problem.
Both kind of people should not be here and seek help.
If you "feel" there is too much focus i can only tell you, that if something you care for in this game is undergoing such drastic measures you would give feedback in the right place.
Also if you "feel" "its just a game".... sorry i cant teach you selfrespect or the worth of money in a game forum.
And if youre are fine with deminishing the worth of youre money and/or time, thats ok but do not push youre feeling/agenda on others.
As others pointed out there is other platforms, on which is not this much discussed about the "graphic change", there is a space where you can go but this is "The official Forum for FFXIV".
I guess thats the downside for you. I am sorry this space is "annyoing" to you at the moment but its not youre space alone.

What regular changes do they make in response to general feedback that actually mean anything

They are incredibly rigid on refusing to change the jobs, they rarely respond to feedback about role distinction, they are near silent on changes to content and rewards, yoshi himself outright blew off healers last event, viera and Hrothgar are still waiting for hats

Saying “they do respond to community feedback because they added an extra parasol when they ignore the core functions of the game is just disingenuous

It's wild for sure. I will say, I've at least seen actual arguments on the forums more than on reddit. Reddit is just "THE LIGHTING" and labelling everyone with issues as just looking for something to rage about.

It's weird to see better conversations in the s**tposting sub than the main sub lol

Yeah, this lightning argument is so dumb to me, they show you one of those waxy looking characters, then show the character with better lighning (it does look better), as if the waxy version did not exist under some lightning. Under the old version, we at least had a constant look (waxy looking skin texture is probably the biggest problem to me, because it touch everyone an is one of the things that change the global feeling the most).

They also have not tried to tweak anything with the content shelflife for more than a year, they went with their plan as if it didn't matter and only acknoledged the problem when the patch cycle ended, so they wouldn't have to change de plan. SE has no flexibility.

They litterally showed us like 30 character picture since they revealed the update. It's good they did it, it's nothing compared to all the problems the benchmark put the light on. Especially since IIRC the uncanny skin was one the problems, and it's still there.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with people coming here to voice their criticisms or concerns as an attempt to change the direction of the game. The problem arises when people decide it requires no organization to it, to fill up the board, and act like everyone in the world agrees with them.

They don't ignore the core functions of the game, they just think you're wrong and probably have the data to back them up but we will never know for sure~

There's absolutely nothing wrong with people coming here to voice their criticisms or concerns as an attempt to change the direction of the game. The problem arises when people decide it requires no organization to it, to fill up the board, and act like everyone in the world agrees with them.

I mean let’s not pretend like the reverse isn’t true, the average forum user who is fine with a change or likes the current state of something basically always resorts to the old fallacy of “you have opinion A I have counter opinion B unless you can show me overwhelming evidence of A we should assume B is right by default despite me showing no evidence of B”

Functionally anytime someone makes an argument someone will hit them with “well this is just the forum people who are happy aren’t coming to the forum to complain”, it’s not like square ever releases data on whether something is popular or not

Let’s not pretend like “i made an argument everyone has to agree with me” is the only form of problematic argument

They don't ignore the core functions of the game, they just think you're wrong and probably have the data to back them up but we will never know for sure~

Literally perfect example in the next comment, “they probably are popular, let’s just assume they are popular” and not “hey they might not actually listen to feedback as much as we think they do
