I looked into the fellowship finder thing, and found that it's less than ideal for the situation. There's very low character limits, meaning venues won't be able to fit a shout macro wall of text into it to describe how they have the exact same stuff as everyone else who spams chat, along with their address. I'm looking at the fellowship finder right now, but since I'm on aether I can't actually open them to really look into it. So far I see nothing but fellowships for gays, trans, FC's and raiding. I adjusted the filters for rp and player events, all languages selected, to give as many results as possible. There's 0 results (Player events main, rp sub). Reversing the main and sub yields 3 results, seemingly discord communities.
I can see why people don't use the fellowship finder for venue ads, it's inconvenient. The tiny character limit prevents people from saying what they want to about their venue. The search function doesn't have appropriate filters (ie venue) for people to easily find venues that are open. In order for that to work , someone would need to make a new fellowship each day the venue is open so that new people could find it easily. Needless to say that would lead to it being overrun with spam from more active venues. It also lacks the functionality that party finder has where you're able to link the pf to chat for people to click on, read the details, etc
The best solution I can see is to add that missing functionality to the fellowship finder, and increase the character limit to 300 instead of whatever useless number it's at now. Then take that, and pair it with a new chat channel (gonna call it the ad channel for the sake of simplicity), that has a limitation on how often one can post in it. Make this chat channel behave like system messages so that all players online can see it if they have the channel filtered into their chat tab. Then they can also add custom sound effects to it, so they get extra notice for their venues (this feature already exists in game).
A little clean up of the fellowship finder search tags ,and the ability to view most recent posts with selected tags would make a world of difference for the entire community and create a much healthier atmosphere. People are complaining about the shout spam every day. The reason nobody speaks up about it is because the community becomes toxic and trolls anyone who has an opinion that doesn't suit their agenda. That's why this thread had 15 pages or more deleted from it. I'm sure my ideas could be expanded on, or refined, but at the end of the day something similar to what I suggest is simply better for everyone , no matter which side of the fence they're on
