RP shout ads are obstructive to chat and gameplay

Active parenting , something you clearly know nothing about, doesn't stop ignorant and obnoxious people from spamming chat channels with hooker advertisements. Nor does it provide an alternative place for people to post their venue ads in a way that isn't an obstruction to the rest of the people who play the game. That's what this thread was started for, so if you guys wouldn't mind staying on topic and focus on the problem and the solution, and stop trying to bicker over imaginary what-if situations, stop gaslightijg and drop the strawman crap... Maybe we can actually find a solution here. Or keep acting like obnoxious children with a bad, know-it-all attitude and make the forum a cesspool where you all just attack each other over nothing

Active parenting would've lead to people not gaslighting in a forum where people try to have civil convos and find solutions but here we have people making baseless attacks on parenting and ranting about imaginary things, drawing their own conclusions and being malicious over their own personal delusions. Clearly advertising erp dens is so important that people should be forced to turn off a chat channel and by extension they miss out on in game activies like hunts, party finders, special fates, random giveaways like minions and whatnot... Because the rp people are what's really important here. Nobody else matters at all

I guess the people on aether who do nothing but ultimates could flood shout chat with mechanic guides for each phase of every fight and that would be ok , then people can complain that nobody sees their rp ads and ask the Raiders to chill or find somewhere else for them to do their raid talk in a way that doesn't obstruct the game. While I can agree not every enviornment is meant for children and Adults need their own spaces to, what about the other cases, in this case with the Ops daughter do we say not everything needs to involve children?

I remember being a kid on an MMO, I've actually been approached sexually by a 30 yr old when i was 16, I didn;t do anything to gain such attention, I was just trying to do some weekly content before I joined a pug for reclears. I think theres a middle ground between protecting children and allowing adults to express themselves freely. Which is sually these things only being done in trusted groups, not just out in the open where other adults are even uncomfortable. [...)

In the case of the OP's daughter, we're unfortunately in a grey area: that of the street and any other public space. In fact, in MMORPGs it's even blurrier, because most people don't notice your age. You're just one character among many, averaging between 15 and 30 years of age, with a majority of adults (it seems to me, given the age-related stats of MMORPG players). In this case, there's no magic solution. Either you stand behind your child and check everything that happens... or you accept that an incident (accident?) may occur. If I may make a suggestion, avoiding towns like Limsa may already be a good way forward.

You can reduce this type of behavior, but in general it can't happen with outright bans that never work. Which can't work for purely technical reasons either, because it's literally impossible to put in a moderator who would check the true age of each player (most minors lie), or ban any approach that's a little too direct from an ERP enthusiast. In FF's case, you'd have to do the following in order:

- Change the appearance of the characters. As I said above, I'm convinced that there's a link between the sexy miqote and the number of... strange ERPs to be found in the game.
- Reduce the possibilities for glamour, because clearly bikinis and the like greatly alter the openness at this level.
- Change the housing, because a system that allows massive meetings can only lead to this type of initiative.
- Potentially place a limit on IG communications systems.

And then, yes, maybe: you'll end up limiting this type of behavior because you're blocking all the possibilities that make this type of ERP attractive. You're making the soil infertile. The problem is that all these solutions block a lot of things for those who are adults, and I'm not talking about people who enjoy ERP, but those who keep the game alive in a more interesting way (drama clubs, for example).

Do you freak out anytime something 18+ gets advertised on tv or in public? I get you wanna protect your daughter but you can't control the world.
Best thing you can do is just teach your daughter what some of those things that could be harmful are.
As long as there's no specific detail of what the 18+ content is, there's no harm in advertising. If they do go into detail, report them.

My daughter and I a very close, and she knows she can talk to me about anything. But the person who approached her isn't the issue, nor what people think she knows about internet safety. ( I can assure you she knows all about it, despite the manner in which some less savory types have behaved in this thread)
The major issue is chat obstruction which is often paired with things that shouldn't be advertised in public areas, where there's children. Big focus on the spam as it's obstructive. The content of the ads is secondary. The incident with my daughter is just what pushed me to say something, as it's been getting out of hand as it is. So again I ask that people focus on that aspect, as it says in the title of the post itself that the spam is obstruction... Idk why this is so hard to focus on, as it's a real issue that goes on all the time

Right and if I turn off shout then I don't see someone linking their pf in shout, and by the exact same token rp venues could link their pf in chat from the other tab saying "check out my (theme) venue! <pfinder>" and you immediately have significantly reduced the chat flooding by more than half. Or y'know RP people could just go browse the "other" tab and stop flooding chat entirely
