Also for the people getting bothered about the whole thing with kids not being safe, as someone who used to be in the venue scene, several major Venues people used to go to and still go to has had issues with grooming and minors being involved. And I highly doubt it's stopped, it's just being covered up very well. XIV sub communities in general always seem to have an issue with minors....

Does the shout spam get out of hand? Absolutely yes. Also, so do the PF advertisements. There's no reason for you to have 4 b2b2b2b ads in PF for the same venue.

No, it's a very first world problem in that regard. I've just white noised shout chat anyway. I only look at it now if I notice a <pos> in it. In game chat is so dead at least on my server and when it is there it's the most moronic stuff anyway.

I agree that the behavior referenced by the OP is annoying at best, dangerous at worst. I can't stand it myself. Unfortunately, other than just completely disabling all chat, I don't see an easy foolproof way of avoiding this kind of stuff. Constant vigilance, my friend, is the best solution. Perfect? Absolutely not.

This kind of stuff is an unfortunate consequence of online gaming.

First I'd like to start by saying that I have nothing against those who rp or venues, or anything that goes along with it. I want everyone to be able to enjoy what they like, in a way that doesn't interfere with the reasonable enjoyment of the game for others.

That being said, the endless walls of text in shout chat 24/7 for these venues is getting way out of hand. Many of these shouts are advertising courtesans. I just had my 14 year old daughter come ask me what a courtesan is, because someone told her her character would be good for the job. This person also told her that they could get her a job as a court at a venue. Needless to say this didn't not sit well with me. Nor does it sit well with me seeing these ads constantly when people are supposed to behave in a way that is appropriate for people 13 years old and older.

And so my suggestion and requests are as follows:
Add an RP chat channel for people to advertise in, so I can turn it off and not have ads obstructing my chats in game. Turning off shout chat isn't a viable solution seeing as I use it to play the game and relay hunts along with various other things. Turning it off and on or swapping tabs every time I go in and outta town isn't fair to ask of me either , I shouldn't have to do this just because people spam the chat. Having their own chat channel seems to be a perfect solution, and would save venue goers from having to sit around town idle, until they see a venue ad that suits them.

And please stop advertising courtesans in your shout ads, so other single fathers like me don't have a heart attack when their little girl gets offered a job as a virtual hooker by some stranger on the internet. This is supposed to be a safe place for everyone and now I feel like my daughter is at risk.

Courtesan, in modern usage, is a euphemism for a kept mistress or prostitute, particularly one with wealthy, powerful, or influential clients.

Quite sure advertising this is a violation of the TOS as well , so I'm not sure how this has been allowed to plague shout chat so frequently, and how a blind eye has been turned.

If we're really going to go down this rabbit hole:

1. Prostitution is legal in several countries and also in the state of Nevada (just heavily regulated).
2. If you think it's bad then fair enough but it's considered a job and many many many people make money off selling their bodies (*looks at OnlyFans and the pron industry).
3. This is the environment the game has and Square does not care enough to change it. The RP community and venue crowd carry this game during the content droughts and Yoshi knows it. If this whole situation truly happened, it's on you to parent your teenager to not speak to random people online without your permission/knowing them from irl (school, hobbies, etc.)

It isn't the internet's job to babysit your teen, it's on you to teach them proper internet safety and what to avoid and what to do in situations that may or may not occur like this.

do you think in the places where it is legal they allow underage kids? i personally have no problem with sex work and it would be much better if it was regulated and legal but this a game is rated for 13 years old and up, such things shouldn't be there for kids to experience.

there needs to be a hard crack-down on any advertising, not even venues but on stuff like streamers advertising there twitch every 45minutes. anybody incouraging you to go off platform shouldnt be able to do so in game as links can be mallicious and cause phishing. and, the advertising of rp venues shouldnt be allowed to be done on xiv at all in shout say or even NN chat, because its sometimes advertising (ok lets be real its all the time) burlesque houses and brothels. i get theres only so much the gms can do.. so a blanket ban is just smarter

it does for me. half the time i look in other for ppl with interesting pfs up like - im lonley and i want friends or, hey lets chat, or just new player needing help. and i can never find them for all these venue posts its so demoralizing

First: I agree that RP venue advertising is annoying, and should be axed.
And I would even love rp chat, if it would stay civil enough and somewhat on topic. Which I highly doubt, knowing what novice network looks like for example.
And the fact that I'm pretty sure that RP venues would just advertise in /shout AND /rp both.
So, good idea but I have no faith if that would fix anything.

I'd love to be able to ban words from my chat box. I'm fine with cussing, but I'd love to be able to quarantine freely any word which seems to appear in RP/RMT ads a lot, and add new ones as they come up with something new.
While I cannot do that I just blacklist RP advertisers and ignore RMT bots, because there doesn't seem to be better solution.
