It's been a long time since ARR was released. I'm just saying, if that's really what sets people off then you waited way too long to launch your complaints.
Nah, they weren't ever dangerous, just annoying.
As for the open world thing, I don't think it would work in the modern MMO. Not because of a lack of interest, but because of how old open world MMOs functioned. Just look at XI and NMs for instance. You had people botting claim just to have a chance to get loot. Can you imagine that in XIV? Or, if they made them like fates, youd have it even worse than hunts if world bosses dropped good loot.
Yes they were; because realm reborn had a denser populstion of enemies and powercreep wasn't astronomical like post heavensward.Nah, they weren't ever dangerous, just annoying.

GW2 annihilates your arguments as far as "open world can't work"
GW2 definitely shows modern open world, working well. It does take intentionality though. One fantastic element GW2 provides is your character scales to the zone, making content in most zones of some interest (besides rewards, due to the scaling you don't lose abilities- so combat doesn't become snooze fest, might argue if Western Thanalan became valuable to farm but you had to FATE sync it all with our current system that'd just be a punishment on the players lol... so you'd need to address that to keep the system evergreen rather than ever-thorny). They layer on many other systems, of course.Nah, they weren't ever dangerous, just annoying.

If ffxiv EVER puts in scaling bs for over world, I will drop it faster then a hot rock, SWtoR & WoW pulled that ish and guess what games I don't play anymore? If they did opt-in ala Rift, that I would be fine with (you could set your lvl lower in open world).
Optional sounds totally fine, assuming FATEs or other akin events still require a forced OPT-in. Is it just the fantasy of destroying weak creatures? So progression is more pronounced / RPGy. Or is it you like the really.. uh.. bare earlier on kits?
It's that forced scaling in open world utterly destroys any sense of progression, why even bother having lvls if the stuff at beginning will hit the same as when you're at the end (game)?
Open world never had a sense of challenge or danger, bar maybe the zone boss FATEs, e.g., Gorgimera, Crab... But these heavily died down when things like PotD and Duty Support were released.
I don't think flying was the cause of the removal of threat -- The only thing flying really did was make that sense of exploration feel a little more dull... But then it goes twofold... How many times can you really go back and fourth in a single zone before it feels less like exploration and more like a chore.
Things cease to have a sense of danger when you learn how to play, and how the game works, and how to navigate the game - E.g., Eureka, threatening dragons until you realize all you need to do is walk by them.
Totally agree OPI was doing the FF11 event on my Lvl 30 Char that has no mounts so I had to run to all 3 fates for the event and boy that was a WASTE OF SUBSCRIPTION TIME trying to dodge mobs that were higher level then me. I almost died.. it was MEANT TO WASTE MY SUBSCRIPTION TIME lol... and I realized that current expansions RESPECT MY TIME.. Leveling has really become very STREAMLINED AND RIGHT TO THE ACTION.. Put back the FUN of leveling back in the game.. Keep the Open world FUN LIKE IT IS NOW.
