This is also true. It's a very rash decision to pick a side in a conflict without even bothering to get the full picture.

But ... isn't it also a bit rash for you/us (the players) to think the WoL/Scion ALREADY picked a side though. The dialogue choices for our response were purposely left ambiguous and I doubt it was done unintentional. The (over-eager/desperated) NPC decided to interpret it in a way that most convenience for them but hey, that's ... pretty common behavior. I'm sure literally everyone in this thread, including the people are complaining about this point had done it many times in their our life ... you know, only hear what we want to hear and see only what we want to see? If anything the complain in this thread is a prime example of that. People are predicting what would be a ~30 hours story based on not even pre-story ~5-10min segment (that's right, this is not even the start of the story) just so they can feel disappointed about. Why?



From an objective point of view, our current response is - at best - non-commitmental. Seriously, I'm struggle to see where people pull this "we already take the NPC word for granted and picked a side" ... like ... wut? All we have an allegation, and a request from a local so we at least obliged to investigate, but there is nothing so far indicated we already cast our dice.

As for issue 3, they are treating what we're doing like a cutesy little treasure hunt and if that were the case then there would be nothing wrong about Thancred and Urianger spying on the other team. After all, it's just a game. However, it's a game that decides the next ruler of a country we've never even been to. The weirdness is baked in at a level deeper than the actual spying.

The way I see it "ok we accept your petition and will investigate". If everything is true as claimed, then sure I can see us try to stop it (that's a given). But I think people are taking it WAY farther than that by implying we take the "petition" as truth and just gonna go over putting down the other guy without ever listen to the other side's story. Like if you file a lawsuit, it's the duty of the judge to "commit" to take the allegation seriously and investigate. Or do you think it's better if the judge just take a glance and dismiss it? At the same time, accepting a case and open the investigation doesn't mean the judge already sided with the accusers and believe the defendant guilty ... which exactly some people here are doing.

How many we had go into a conflict that despite the common wisdom would dictate who the bad and good guys, we still try to do a thoroughly investigation before actually commit to the final resolution? It's not a trial. It's a contest. One we've already agreed to participate in on her side. It's not like we're gonna get there and be like "your brother is more loved by the people and has a much better tax policy, I think we'll help make him king instead."

Why not? In fact if that's what gonna happen, then I expect that's exactly what we gonna do. It will be entirely out of character for the Scion to stick to the current petitioner if their story turns out to be a lie.

You're thinking too black and white. That the random woman we agreed to help is "the good one" and the rest are just evil. We know one sibling is bent on conquest and we know another was a student at Sharlyan that the other Scions are willing to help, so it's not a matter of maybe she's an evil liar. Maybe she's not the best person for the job. It's not like the WoL is gonna be like "you sure seem to tremble a lot in battle, guess I'll help your brother be king instead." We're already treating their political system like a Weekend at Bernie's. There is no reason to believe we're gonna put care into our actions once we get there when we've already agreed to make her queen before even getting onto the boat. We obviously don't care who rules over these people as long as it's not the one that wants to attack us.

Very good, citizen. Also what you spoke of earlier in this thread reminded me of something I learned in the Weeaboo Police Academy. That "war is the continuation of policy with other means" and we see many examples of this in Eorzea's history.
