If they ever go full blown "screw it" mode, make a benevolent-dictator Alphinaud setup. Have it take place several years later when he's older and fed up with the inaction of those in power, so he uses his accumulated personal wealth to fund a sort of rival syndicate that takes matters into their own hands. When you question him on it or ask him how he could ever think this was a good idea (especially after his failure in ARR doing a similar thing), he'll tell you that this time it's different because the funding is coming from him, and he'll reference his success in Eulmore and marvel at the fact that you of all people don't trust him to steer this world in a better direction. Maybe he stages a coup in Limsa and kills the roe lady in charge after warning her not to stand in the way of a better future, and he dispatches officers to Gridania and Ul'dah to do the same, issuing ultimatums and following through while convincing himself that it's for a righteous cause, and that's when we step in to end his hostile takeover. But he expected this, and uses BS portal ascian crystal magical bullshit to banish us and us alone to a dying shard, where we spend the expansion fighting our way out and saving a doomed people. The expansion ends with us returning to Eorzea, only time operated differently between worlds and a decade has passed with Alphinaud installed as supreme dictator... and things are going really, really well. It turns out alphinaud was smart as hell and really was the right man for the job, so there's peace and people are happy and the refugee issue is solved and things are 10/10. And now if we want to challenge him to exact justice(?) for those he killed to stand at the top, we'll have to effectively go against the wishes of everyone, and for what? To avenge some people who have been dead for 10 years? To kill a beloved ruler who's brought genuine prosperity to Eorzea at last? Maybe you even meet the other scions who weren't sent away and they're older and actually trying to dissuade you from bucking the system because yeah, what he did to get there sucked, but at least now we have peace. So you have to go rogue and operate in the shadows or through rebel factions to bring down a tyrannical, but ultimately benevolent, dictatorship.
idk, this is garbo, i just wanna see older more confident (earned confidence, even) alphi getting pissed at all these people who keep questioning his abilities. He's done a lot and deserves more credit. I hated when his dad pulled up in EW to basically dunk on him and Alphi was just sorta shattered by it instead of being like "listen here bitch, I'm a hero to an entire civilization" or something. I'd also love to see like... a leader who's actually kind once he's in power, but he had to do a lot of unforgivable stuff to get there, and you're sorta the only one who still remembers/cares so you feel compelled to do something about it but you're not sure what it'd serve. That feeling of wanting to act, but not knowing why or what good it would do, I'd love to see that encapsulated here, but the whole thing would have to be slowly worked up to, foreshadowed over many expansions, and done by writers who know what they're doing and not someone burning out the clock at work.
