This is just flat out false. Gemstone vendors were immediately available at the start of ShB and EW and so were the riding maps. They were rank 1 in ShB and Rank 2 in EW. Rank 2 is 10 fates. 10. Which is enough to get your fate challenge log entry done and get you the gemstones to buy the riding map.

Just a few examples pulled from the XIV wiki.





The only riding maps that were not available at the time of expansion release were the Stormblood area maps. Those were released at patch 4.4. But that's likely because they put work into making riding maps available for HW and ARR areas at launch of Stormblood. Which they were.



Should they have done that for the SB maps too? Yeah. But...I doubt that was some nefarious scheme to force people to buy the Fenrir.

You're expecting people in XIV to have self control, when they can't even control themselves to not attack the devs over new races?

So what you are saying is, people progging the same old content from patches ago, wearing Glam that is probably half from the store, grinding the same dold content, and doing hunt trains which is one of the most mind numbing easy and boring content to ever exist. It is in the game, for free, and earnable. You do fates and unlock mount speed for every mount. I know no one who purchased the fenrir for mount speed. No one.

And in EW launch I saw SDS Fenrir mounts everywhere. But again good for your experience. Doesnt change that it's a reality. What you're saying rn is equal to someone saying, I've never got bullied so bullyinh doesn't happen

And once again just because you don't wanna agree to it a set of governments did, and thing they should be abolished! Removed! People should just EARN THINGS NATURALLY IN GAMES, cuz it's not just about speed, but past holiday outfits, emotes, other mounts, and housing items, other MMOs don't even charge you a fee to change your gender and fully re-customize your character anymore.

Or better yet, since it's a hot topic, why are we supporting the cash shop when Se can just be better about how it manages it's products and money so XIV isn't the only things keeping the lights on. See, I will fully agree on the past holiday event items. Those should just be put back into the game via the respective event vendors. Putting them on cash shop is...scummy. But stuff like Fenrir and Play Dead? Again, they aren't mandatory. That's just facts. Also I can recognize this fact that they are not mandatory or predatory and still not like the cash shop. Someone can hold both these opinions. I have not bought things off the cash shop in...a couple years? I think the last thing was Cruise Chaser and then I just stopped. Because the cash shop was getting even more out of hand after that and not buying things off it is how I say "I'm not ok with this chief." Anything else I have off it was gifted to me. (Even though I tell people not to...but it's their money.) I can hold that opinion and practice, while also saying that it isn't predatory. I'm not defending the cash shop, but more saying that it isn't predatory from my perspective because I have seen far far worse. If the cash shop were to do stuff like requiring you to PAY FOR YOUR EXTRA HOTBARS! I would then say that is predatory. I also say comparing it to gambling is gross because there is no gamble. You put thing in cart. Pay for it. Get thing. There is no slot machine for the Fenrir. The EU stuff you are citing is more focused on cash shops that offer loot boxes as one of the 'products'. Or at least, that's what it was last time I checked on that stuff. So any recent developments are new to me. Because I am dumb American who does not constantly pay attention to foreign governments all the time...

I get and see your passion. I fully understand it and actually overall support it. I just don't agree that purely cosmetic items are predatory. That's it. This discussion is about paying a sub for players who have been with the game for a while. I should not need to disclose that you can do old content like trains and relics and I did mention high end (because the only long term new group content is really that). In other words my original post stands. For players like us, there's noting to do really do unless maybe you're progging high end content. Everything else you have likely tried or done on at least one job, possibly even most or all jobs, if you've played for at least one expansion.

Which is why I'm not subbed.

Well I have a suspicion sufficient people have unsubbed because the last few financial quarters have not been good for the MMO segment. In other words your beloved new players you like to invoke are either not progressing fast enough or not buying the game ultimately. There's just no other to explain the consistent revenue loss. So people are speaking with their wallet-- OP doing it is just another person to add to the list.

There are free games that deliver more consistent and higher quality content than XIV. Hopefully 7.0 will prove the team is aware of this and not taking the game for granted. I'm very pleased with the content rollout so far but I will not hold my breath as they have not proven they can deliver a sub merited experience with their current workload seemingly overwhelming them, which is my concern. If your caught up on all the content you enjoy the devs are responsible for making ongoing payments worth it. Right now that just isn't happening..and the patch cycle hasn't even ended. It remains to be seen if this 7.0 content will be up to standard or this "lite" version of content we have been getting.

My impression was they were releasing 2-star riding maps at the tail-end of an expansion. It felt like the ones at the end of Stormblood solidified this as a formula. Then they just stopped doing it in Shadowbringers, probably due to covid and how pointless they are due to flying. But they also didn't do it in Endwalker, so I have assumed they just forgot about them now.

Except that's still entirely speculation on your end. Unless you somehow have access to the hard numbers showing a drop in subs for XIV is the reason for those losses, then you are just speculating. Because FFXIV isn't their only MMO or thing contained under their MMO segment. You're just putting all those losses on XIV with no real proof. However, anything I say on those losses would also be speculation. Because looking at the financial reports, they don't specifically say either or. If people are speaking with their wallets, that's a good thing because it might get SE to wake up.

Wait, I forget, did you get a mount speed increase without a map in SB areas? If so then the 4.4 maps were a second boost. My memory is a bit foggy on that and I can't just go check in game right now. Cause ya know...
