In a normal situation I would say keep the sync, but in it's current state Criterion will be the deadest battle content in this game. It has no story people want to do, no rewards, and it's too hard for what it offers.

It's a shame because they are really fun.

Honestly it's really annoying that the rewards are either extremely sparse or just... Rare. All the citerions are like this, rbh. It's like "hey, wanna run this really difficult dungen for wome -really- ugly glams and MAYBE a minion?"
    It's pretty pathetic.

It's amazing how all of the rewards (except the Variant mounts) are hideous. It's like they tried on purpose to make everything ugly and undesirable.

Haven't done criterion yet because of the rewards, it is a shame because as you said, I've heard unanimous praise for the content itself.

I think the the story/lore being mainly in variant is pretty good as is, because if I'm doing harder content in an mmo I'm not doing it for the story really, but gods I need some rewards in criterion normal that I actually care about, because materia(lmao) and a mount you can just buy off the marketboard anyway ain't it.

Idk if someone else said it already, but... shelf life. The term you're looking for is shelf life.

Alright. Let's say I run it, I have fun getting my first completion. What is that content (of which, is stated to be savage level if not harder) going to give me for the time investment for repeat runs? A mount you can just buy and materia?

I'm not going to waste my time learning savage level encounters for nothing of value (to me, since that apparently needs clarification on this site) upon completion on repeat runs. I have much better things in other games I could be doing with that time that actually gets me somewhere.

Eureka gave me incentive to go back and still does to this day, Bozja gave me incentive to go back and still does to this day. EX trials maintain their value for people back and farm for mounts or mats regardless of their expansion. Savage raids give people incentive because it gives you gear (of which, you basically need for criterion anyway from what I've heard), and maintiain their value in later expansions as glamour farms and even mount farms in final fights of the tier. Criterion does not on repeat runs (except for the mount, which, again, you can just buy which makes it meaningless). It isn't worth my time investment.

What happened to doing content because it's fun to play.

Oh it can be fun to play, I'll fully concede when something is fun to play, but it isn't worth my time to learn a savage level encounter just because. I enjoyed my time in each variant even if I didn't go out of my way to do every path yet.

Here I am running Mythic+ on WoW with those same friends I would have brought to run Criterion, and having loads of fun with that. We're even getting delves in The War Within which are going to scale up to heroic, I believe. They'll also be solable. Going to mention it will provide a weekly piece of gear via Great Vault thanks to them replacing the pvp row with a World Content row instead.

The rewards seem pretty good to me now on par with savage raids and ultimates, 4 titles for clearing them all on savage, and unique weapon glows including one for blu which is rather unique, on top of some unique housing items that are incredibly rare to see out there in the wild, so there will be still a lot of value running this in later expansions.
This is also not meant to be m+, I don't understand why it keeps getting compared to it, crit is supposed to end and not meant to be grinded until your eyes bleed, what do you even get out of m+ a mount? the gear is meaningless copy pasted 2d painted textures so that's useless as glam, so crit has the superior longevity rewards now.
Also it's ok to admit when you get filtered by something. M+ has a barrier of entry for toddlers, crit does require a minuscule amount of commitment from the start.
