Please stop hiding miqo'te ears (and other races') from certain head gear

They've gotten lazier with gear as the game has gone on... Sometimes it feels like the only races they remember existing in the game are Hyurs, Roes and Lalas. And so you get copious amounts of clipping with tails, or ears vanishing... Or the Au Ra horns clipping with helmets...

The ear spikes elezen get on some headgear generally looks ridiculous. I wish the design took into account

• how people with ears of a given shape would actually get their heads into and out of the headgear,
• what stress it puts on the ears (some folding is presumably fine, a lot would cause people to avoid the headgear; miqo'te and viera presumably have more mobile ears than elezen and lalafells)
• the function of the headgear, e.g. helmets should preferably be smooth to deflect attacks, or at least not have the place where the ear meets the head also be the place where a blade is led. Stuff that is for warmth should definitely cover ears (as all the incredulous responses when someone wears a knit cap without actually covering their ears indicate).

E.g. elezen helmets would probably be rather cone-shaped or bulbous to give some room for the ears both when taking the helmet on/off and wearing it, and to actually protect the ears as well. Then again, there are lots of elezen running around in cold climates with their ears out, something that is painful for even us short-eared humans. There is some headgear here that I wouldn't wear as a human precisely because they expose the ears too much.

Viera and miqo'te ear accomodations in helmets would probably also be rather cone-shaped, or maybe long tubes compared to elezen/lalafell domes/squat cones?

I'm also not convinced all races would actually use the same designs for headgear. There probably could be some ears-on-top-of-head designs that ears-on-side-of-head races wouldn't use?

If I had to choose between having my ears shown, or having them ruin a hard shelled helmet like that... I'd rather have them hidden. If it's like a cloth cap, leather hat, or some sort of hood then sure cut out some holes for them.

I'd rather have the mis-sized ear pockets than to not have ears at all, quite frankly, and i think the viera sentai helmet is kind of charming anyway and wish i'd been able to play when it was available. Even not having hats is better than wholesale removal of a characteristic feature of a player race.

the "easiest" option (assuming the hair issue is fixed in the rework) is just clipping, which while yeah it is kind of ugly at least retains features someone presumably deliberately chose their race for.

I don't mind being able to hide the ears can make for a more Zidane from FFIX style look. However should stuff like this be an additional option similar to hide helmet or the visor setting? 100% yes.

Yeah, several elezen and lalafell players don't seem to be too keen on ear pouches. Still, I have seen some wanting them so in the end the best possible solution would be a toggle.

Ear pouches (and holes probably) are added on top of the base headpiece so it should be pretty simple to show/hide.


Also, some comments may have missed the fact that, as I said in the OP, SE doesn't have to adjust every single piece of head gear, since not all of them would be suited for ear holes, pouches or any other thing they might consider adding.

For the majority of them it would be suitable though and since their intention is to go through all gear in the game to graphically update it, it's the perfect opportunity to also work on the issue of ears for the affected races.

1. Hyur got ears. 2 to be precise. Never heard a Hyur/lala/elezen complaining because the helmet hides his/her ears.
2. When I use an helmet for the motorcycle my ears are hidden (and protected).
3. an helmet is used to protect your head, ears included.

With the logic of "Show your ears" miqote's and viera adventurers would all be deaf.

Ironic coming from someone who has their character charge into combat wearing a crown instead of a full-faced helmet or other such protective gear.

Gear from Stormblood onward that covers the entire head tends to fully hide the ears of miqo'te.

For the latest Fashion Report, my miqo'te wore a lvl 50 top hat which had ear sleeves.

It looked terrible.

I have what's known as Stahl's ear deformity, which is extra cartilage in the ear that essentially gives me literal pointed elf ears. Sounds cool, but it makes wearing headphones almost impossible since I have to bend and fold my ears into the cups and it becomes extremely painful after about an hour.

Can't even imagine how much it must hurt catboys/girls to have their ears crushed under a hat or helmet 24/7
