It's Final Fantasy XIV. A monthly sub is almost the same price as a gallon of milk. You're not gonna get much out of this game. It's more like a side game that you play in between playing your other games which are way better and have more content. Plus, Square Enix isn't doing so well right now since sales for FF16 tapered off. People are gonna have to lower their expectations as we enter the long and slow decline phase of FFXIV's life cycle.

I was never going to do anything but the Normal version, but I still haven't done even that yet. I assumed finding a group for any of that would be impossible after the first week.

I'm the first to lament the state of the game, but this post reeks of irrelevant doom salt lol. Doesn't look like you take it for a "side game" from the looks of things. What's SE done to you ? Also long and slow decline phase ? You're clueless, it's Yoshi-p who's stuck on his stale "vision", more than it is a decline phase. The game could be infinitely more fun if not for the ways of the guy. See pvp, where it's clear that devs could freely express themselves.
And SE not doing well ? Tell that to FFXVI and especially FFVII...
