Ok Time Out. Brother, what in the hell are you talking about that the job quests were getting too samey? Heck the flippin role quests are purely the same premise; they just dress it up with some specific character flavor lore. Not trying to say these were worse...they're fine.

But saying that job quests were all the same has got to be one of the most out of touch takes Ive ever heard yet.

For job quests, how about we become the trainer for a new generation? Kinda of an apprentice program.

For older jobs that'd be really nice.

For newer jobs I really think we need a longer quest line. Also push the jobs starting point back 10 levels. Having a couple of arcs over 20-30 levels of job quests would be less rushed, and having the job start just slightly lower will help out a lot with the people that pick up the jobs and don't read tooltips. You really shouldn't be an expert with your job lore wise within 10 levels worth of job quests.

Role quests were definitely a bit copy pasted, but if you look back job quests definitely had a lot of themes copy and pasted among them.

How many job quest finales in ARR were literally you fighting your mentor figure? How many job quests have you dealing with a traitor? How many job quests have you dealing with some psycho tormentor responsible for the suffering of other characters involved in the quest line? Or what about all the times we've dealt with supernatural world ending forces?

I don't miss job quests because most of them are just bad. Frankly I think most of the decent one we got were when the job is introduced the first time. Otherwise they get progressively worse as more job is added.

But ... I don't like role quest either because they seem to be anything but role quests. Like ... don't get me wrong, in a vacuum most of them are good quests, they are just not ... role quest, and feel the role are just tacked on after the fact for the shake of existence. For example, you get one rather inconsequence scene to heal Fedora that I feel is the equivalent of the Holywood's blackman token appearance just so they can claim inclusive. Also why Doman asked for P.range role to deal with airborn thread? Out of the entire alliance, they are probably the best (or second to best after Isghard) in term of anti-air warfar. During the siege of Ala-migho Doman was literally the air suppression division of the Alliance.

Like if they gonna make the role quest, then the role should be the center-piece of the writing, not just something slapped on simply for appearance shake. For example, at the very least the healer role quests should be something like the WHM quest in Stormblood, where it's very specific why it HAS to be a healer during that quest.

I personally preferred having Job quests even if an amount weren't...great. However the new ew role quests didn't really hit it for me like they did in Shadowbringers. I feel like my sentiment is the same as Raven's. I would like the role be a central figure of WHY the role quest is for that particular role.

Yeah, I'd say that EW's Role Quests could've made the actual roles a bit more important, I kinda saw it more as a way to hang out with the city-state leaders one last time. If the story is anything to go by, it seems like we're pretty much done with them. At least for awhile.

I found a lot of them follow the same formula. It's not enough time to introduce a new character and let them have anything meaningful within 5 or so quests. I'd rather have the MSQ introducing parts of it and go from there. I also like that they are interconnected and lead to a small surprise if you do all.

In contrast I find the job quests a bit on the shallow side. It's character introduction, introduction of a problem, either a switcheroo because good was bad or vice versa or power of friendship,
followed by the resolution and a post credit scene. And while that is true for a lot of stories at least the role quests do a better job at hiding it. Tying them together gives you way more to work with and more time to develop something. I don't need yet another WHM quest that heals the fwowest. Give me 5 good stories than 20 bland ones.

The roles generally went to the city that didn't have that class guild available. Gridania has no tank guild, Limsa has no melee (the Rogues' Guild isn't publicly acknowledged, even if it's kind of an open secret), Ul'dah and Ala Mhigo have no healers, and Ishgard has no casters (despite a couple of the Heavens' Ward being thaumaturges, but there's no public guild in the city for it). Doma kinda got the leftover ranged, but their military is mostly samurai and shinobi, so it still sorta fits the theme.

Of course, the quests don't actually do much with that (the most I remember is getting asked to heal a couple of NPCs during the healer quests), so.....

The thing is those Job quests help sell the “fantasy” of each Job. Without them, you just feel like a generic adventurer, and that “jobs” are just different equipped weapons.

I think the game is much worse without their presence. Especially just being GIVEN your artifact armor, with zero fanfare.

Agreed. Much of the identity of jobs came from their personalized quests that delved into their lore and themes, and I miss having those.
