Sorry you're getting so much crap from people. There are a bunch of people who are burnt out and upset right now (they'll insist they aren't) and trying to be down on it and get everyone else to be.

So you got to SB before? Do you still have that character? You might consider hopping back on them and picking up now that you've had a refresher through HW. You can skim past cutscenes in the inn room (that "Unending Journal" thing you can interact with), or you can watch some story recaps. "Mad Because Small" does brief and humorous takes, but broke the story up by each expansion and, if you're into that kind of humor, can give you a quick and dirty recap.

What is it you're having difficulty with right now? Is the story just in a low spot (where in HW are you, if I may ask?), or is it the Job you're playing that you aren't sure you care for? If it's the latter, you can pick SAM and/or RDM up at level 50 (if you own SB, which I take it you do) or GNB and/or DNC at 60. Sometimes changing things up can help.

If you love PvP, you can actually level doing that, though that doesn't help you with the MSQ too much, I guess. And yeah, it's pretty fun if you like it.

I'd say the main objective is doing the MSQ, and when you feel you've had as much of that as you want at the moment, do whatever else is fun for you - Frontlines, roulettes, trying out new Jobs, whatever.

If you can describe your problem more, maybe I can offer more advice, but that's what I'd go with for starter.
