If you account for inflation sub prices have gone down. It's the one price that hasn't changed in 20+ years.
Plus, you can just go to an entry sub or sub for multiple months to get a reduction too.

subs are just a way to get more money, how you want to look at it is up to you, but the sub wont change if they decided to drop the game like 11 where you pay a sub for a left for dead game.
at the end of the day the only thing a sub guarantees is you logging in.
Your $60 paid for the expansion AND the patches in advance.
Your subscription gives you access to the currently released portion of what you paid for. That is all.
The games industry as a whole is rapidly approaching a massive crash. The mass layoffs are a bright flashing warning sign for that. I expect SE to make a lot of money from the online store via fantasia, skips and overpriced mounts/outfits so subprice could probably go down a bit with SE still making a profit but my hope for that actually happening is unsurprisingly low especially since they can always point to server upkeep. SE as a whole is not far behind the likes of actiblizz or EA in terms of greed if at all.
If anything, it's more likely to be passively keeping them from putting prices up than giving them a reason to actively lower it.
The only way this game can go to F2P its by deleting mods once for all and focus solely on Cash Shop items (they have been doing it for the last years).
Cash shop has rarely been enough to keep a F2P game afloat. Even Warframe and PoE, that are often regarded as the best F2P games in the industry, use FOMO tactics and heavy pay for convenience on their store. PoE gives the players limited inventory space in a game that requires loot hoarding to trade and progress through endgame, and Warframe not only grind-gates new characters, but also time gates them, as the crafting process can take literal days. Not to mention you also have to grind and trade for paid currency if you wanna buy more inventory slots, card slots, warframe slots, weapon slots... You get me.
This game is the cheapest of everything in existence (subscription model)
Any time I try any F2P game, I usually spend 1 year worth of subscription in a week because of all the BS progression in shop or no life it to get decent progression. For context I play Lost Ark on the side and avg spend $80-100 a week
