I hate the color themed casters just from a glam perspective. Always ended up feeling limited. We already have white, black, red, and blue. Let’s do an original job. Call it shaman, Druid, mystic, elementalist, anything but green mage.

Also not sure if I agree with the DoT suggestion. They’ve been clipping dots in the game over time. They don’t like the gameplay aspect of DoTs. I can’t imagine there’s going to be an entire new job that revolves around it.
Hmm that is fair with dots, and also something I noticed (bards used to get song procs on their dots, now they don't). I think if its called green mage it might delve into shaman/druid/etc as a themeing. Like how blue mage's original practitioners wear tribal clothing and use the equivalent of a counting coup for their weapon.

Blue Mage use the power of the monsters, Green Mage the power of nature, it would really fit the job identity and origins.
"Shell" not only reminds of the spell but also of a turtle, of a wild animal.

I guess if it is a "support" job then it will be the Dancer of the casters. But at the same time I'm worried about the game balance if we get 2 dancer-like stacking buffs on a Samurai/Black Mage. This could possibly establish a "meta".
It could also be the Bard of the casters, constant buffs for the whole party.
Yea shell 1 and protect 1 really gives a turtle vibe to me.

We currently do have summoner and red mage that do provide group buffs in terms of damage. I suppose it would depend on how heavy it goes into the support role. As a funny thing is players did reach the buff cap limit in TOP. So that is another thing to consider, is just like how there is a limited number of debuff slots, there is a limited number of buff slots.

Knowing our luck it might be a mix of potential job ideas to make one job. As green mage by itself, even if you gave it all of its green magic, is still missing a lot of ability slots to make it a complete kit.

I figured it was just because Donatello uses two swords, but I guess if there is a possibility they are taking a second whack at chemist, it wouldn't be the weirdest thing in the world.

Shell/Protect can actually work, though... If it follows a similar logic to the Blackest Night if it refunds offensive resources to the mage.

Damage follows a predictable pattern on XIV, so you'd need for example, to successfuly cast 3 Shells on people to farm enough resources on damage for the next burst phase. The only issue with this concept is actually on the healers. Damage already feels too trivial for them during optimization, and even more if you account support utilities like Curing Waltz or Mantra being used. Imagine adding Shell on top of everything else to soak even more damage.

Haste could exist as a "single target Expedient".

If it ends up as a damage support role, I think it could go towards the same 'uptime buff everyone but for a smaller amount' of Bard, because the way Dancer is focused on single target buffing is also kind of covered by Astrologian, and if they do change the way AST bursts to be less busy, we may expect more card usage outside of the 2min meta.

Will put you on ignore if you can't form a logical argument but argue nonetheless

It's the geomancer. The turtle (Genbu) shirt that Yoshida was wearing gave it away. And yes, Genbu is a geomancer.

Based on the huge hint during the ending of 6.5 msq most think it’s green mage now. I’m still on the geomancer train myself. Even though it’s eastern theme in ffxiv that we know about we still don’t know the original origins of geomancy in ffxiv. The lore is allot deeper and yes Genbu is a geomancer and he is a turtle. It can be a multitude of jobs to be honest. I’m still on the geomancer hype. We shall find out on January 7th.

Turtles are green. And turtles have shells. Yoshi's t-shirt clues haven't been that subtle, they've actually been quite direct. The Red Mage clue shirt was Scarlet Witch. That, paired with the clue in the MSQ definitely leans toward Green Mage. It certainly isn't definitive, but there's definitely a good reason people are seeing a connection.

The Spider-Man shirt was the most obtuse reference ever, and only works at all because Japanese speakers mispronounce Sam Raimi's name as ライミ instead of the less incorrect pronunciation レイミ. He should have used that shirt for Blue Mage rather than samurai; it would have made far more sense.

The spell protect has already been in the game and it was a WHM spell. I think it was removed when they did away with the cross class system and instead went to role skills. I guess they could make it a green magic spell if they wanted to now since it doesn't really exist outside of special actions but a lot of players still remember it being white magic here, and it has been white magic in a lot of FF games as well as shell and bravery.
