Discussion around recent Influencer suggestions at EU Fanfest.

At the EU London fanfest, several influencers coordinated with several of their friends to convince Yoshi P that the community wants a tomestone cap increase from 450/week to something higher and Savage gear unlocked earlier in current tier. Aka: Speed up the gearing grind process.

Are these things the community actively wants or is it merely things that influencers believe are a good idea but really are not. Are there any consequences to these suggestions such as content becoming dead sooner from faster gearing? If these are infact things the community wants, then we need to create some bigger noise with it.

Arthars, Xeno, and Ilima Todd were some of the influencers who mentioned these things to Yoshi-P.

A lot of people almost every patch have asked the 450 tome cap be increased. So no it's not just influencers. I don't mind the current cap, but I'm not trying to run splits or run savage.

I'm sure everyone wants the tome cap increase, my question is mostly; Is this truly a good idea type of question? What are the consequences that are currently being neglected in favor of these changes?

People either want the tome cap to increase or the item costs reduced, the reason being is to incentivise people to try out other roles. Currently, it can take a while to gear up an alternate role and, whilst you can clear content with crafted gear, some might want to have a bit of a stat buffer to help them out, especially for roles they don't normally play.

This not only gets people to play new jobs but also has the effect of making raids feel different, just because you are playing something else, especially if that something else is in a different role.

The crux of the matter is people feel the gear upgrading is too slow. Which is why the common solution is to increase the tome cap

I would like the tome cap increases after the patch they come out to help people catch up. So if a new tome comes out in patch x.2, I’d like it to be doubled in patch x.3. Two months before the new tome comes out, around x.35 they should be uncapped. With the new linger cycle, the 450 cap does need to be evaluated.

I foresee situations when applying to statics where you end up not playing the job you wanted to play because you were made to play as a different role because of how easy it is to swap. Or having to trial for multiple jobs.
Also, I currently look at my friends and view them as certain job mains. If anyone can easily gear any job, then that main job Individualism starts to become lost. I no longer view my Reaper friend as a Reaper main, I just view them as a guy that can play 7 jobs.

Additionally, if more people can gear multiple jobs, then it becomes more expected to have higher parses on multiple jobs and not just your main. This already happens to a certain extent, but it'd become much worse. Statics might require you to have logs on every melee instead of just your main. Also if more people are swapping jobs mid raid because gearing is faster, then you got more people relearning the fights but on different jobs which sets prog back cause your teammate wants to learn multiple roles.

Not saying these are good reasons, and definitely not saying these things will happen. But they are definitely environment changes I could expect to happen. There wouldn't be an excuse anymore for you to change your job to another job if it's optimal.
Some people may not take advantage of this at all even and might quit the game in 6 weeks instead of 8 because the gearing is faster. Just some small things to consider.

This is more the type of stuff I was looking for. What are the consequences of these changes. Are they changes that are worth it in the grand scheme of things? We know the pros of faster gearing, what are the cons?

It’s very true that people may try to get you to move out of your comfort zone to try new things but once you have found your preferred role or job, it’s best to stick to it and don’t let people force you out of it if you don’t want to. It will ultimately end badly for you and has the potential for resentment if not more.

I’m a WHM main and that’s what I play, if asked to play other jobs I simply say no thank you and accept the consequences of my decision. Even if WHM gets bad again, I’ll probably stick with it but at most, I’ll stay with healing as it is what I really enjoy. That’s the key, play what makes you happy.

Personally I’d love it if they were to increase the cap or reduce its cost.

It’s disheartening to see that it takes at most 1 month & a half roughly to fully gear up one distinctive role (provided you sacredly grind for it..).

To alternate between jobs is a blessing & a wonder to accomodate yourself & others.

I’d be upset if they were to increase the cap at a relatively later time as soon as the expansion is closer to hit then it would feel pointless.
