Personal appeal - Please don't make every major boss an instance

Obviously I don't know for a fact that they plan on doing that, but I thought I'd just put it out there that open world content is something that I, and I'm sure many others, find very appealing.

Once 2.0 hits and brings along the new world design, I hope the developers begin to focus on developing content that exists in a persistent state on each server as opposed to relegating everything to the planned dungeon finder. Being able to wander around off the road paths, finding yourself smack dab in a creepy cave full of mobs way to high level for you is a very thrilling experience. Carefully sneaking around, trying your best not to draw agro just for the sheer fun of it. Eventually you'd find yourself in the deepest catacombs, where you'd find a rather impressive looking boss mob wandering around. You'd awe at the sight, before inevitably getting hate and one shotted, still having a blast despite not gaining anything

And just to clarify, I'm talking about both boss mobs/NMs that roam the fields, and those that have open world dungeons built for them; no time limits or secondary objectives, just a difficult journey to perhaps find something cool~

Who else would like to see the same?

    LOL

OP, the casual players will cry to SE and call us nazi-elitists for out pulling the NM/HNM/Boss or what have you. They're like the Neo-American-Socialists, bunch of lazy, non-competitive, cry babies that couldn't survive in my world.

I'm not trying to segregate or discriminate between "hardcore" and "casual" players. In fact, I honestly don't see how open world content is inherently more "hardcore" than instanced content. What I am trying to say, however, is that open world content has a different feel and appeal (A greater sense of immersion and exploration) than instanced content (Which also has it's merits), and that I really hope the developers don't fall into creating only content of the instanced variety due to the coming dungeon finder (and the fact that all recent new content has been instanced)

I personally appreciate your measured tone, Jocko. illriginalized is a bit overly aggressive, and doesn't tend to handle arguments very well, if his thread on gear-swapping is any indication

In response to your original post - I agree completely. I'm hoping the dungeon finder is mostly restricted to the events that were a PITA (re: required end-game shells and all the associated drama) for casual players to enjoy in FFXI. Dynamis, Limbus, Salvage and Einherjar all come to mind. These sorts of larger-scale battlefields seem ideally suited for a content finder, because everyone could then participate if they want to, without having to put up with the elitist community that dominated FFXI's end-game scene.

Keeping *other* types of events away from the content finder (random wandering NMs, story missions, even small-group instanced content like Assault) would give us the best of both worlds, as this would still allow for the community building and feeling of exploration that a lot of us remember fondly from FFXI. Just my thoughts, anyway.

I think as long as quest related enemies aren't tied to farm-worthy loot, I'm up for this.

This is what I think, honestly.

    For quests/missions: Instance

For drops: Non-instance or open world? Dunno the terminology. Or a mixture, some being instance some others being free to all for the sake of competitiveness.

    For Primal: Instance arena

Oh man.. that barely scratches the surface. I can't even read more than 5 threads in a day or I'd have to go take anger management classes. Some of the posts I've seen in this forum makes me wonder why do some of these people even play the game? But meh

I just feel like FFXIV is taking the worst aspects of all the other MMOs out there (e.g., content finder, heavily instanced, heavily themepark, heavily restrictive gear even on crafting gear, gear grind, crafter irrelevance) and taking none of the good stuff (i.e., playability, interesting combat).
