I like both honestly, but damn does that image show how much cleaner and crisp characters look (like yeah the comparison photo is blurry but the point stands haha) I think now is a good time to post this feedback as its clear with the Au ra horns and lalas that they are taking in feedback while they are in the process of working on this...people have less to say about environments then say characters so it seems to be where the core focus is.

    Pretty much this.

I suspect it has something to do with the mentality behind workflow they talked about. All the faces now being a morph from the midlander face. In an effort to make their work flow easier, they just removed some aspects of non-midlander races.

I'm probably being a bit overly cynical, but they've been neglecting racial aspects like tails and ears for literal years. I don't know why anyone is surprised they're potentially doing it with faces now too.

To add to the cynicism, if we're to streamline all races to align to Hyurs, why even have different races in the first place, might as well just be 'body type 1 to 7 and a furry'

so apparently the only option that doesn't "stress the newbies" is either pressing 1211111111, or do nothing at all.

That's what I'm worried about beyond just eyes, because feature wise it's really barren. Icon is clearly face 4 femra and if I could have a wider+broader nose I would! But that's not possible and most fem faces are demure and dainty with no hint of variety on either the fantasy side or even just simply ethnic. I wouldn't be surprised if the removal of roe pupils was for this streamlining and I really don't like that idea, especially where XIV took such a massive turn from the uniqueness of races that are in XI. Like at least keep the eyes, it's really nothing too difficult since it's just a texture.

This isn't true of female Roegadyn only, actually! It affects a few races, and Elezen and male Roegadyn are ones that I know of at the top of my head, albeit to a lesser extent. It's a shame, though, since I don't think it's actually on purpose in that case, so I'm trying to mentally prepare for my Elezen with a white eye color to lose their grey pupil...

I'll be holding out hope for you, though, because it is 100% most noticeable on female Roegadyn and a cute feature, even if accidental.

It feels more like a technical limitation or a bug. I like the black pupils. If they take every feedback the characters would never change. I was looking forwards to making an au ra because of the nice horns, until they showed the "improvement" to the scales this fanfest which was visibly a downgrade. Your character looks good, but I don't think the effect was intentional.

i don't see much different with the lalafell , just the lips look more blurry. and the eye look a little better. if they plan to do barely nothing to the lalafell at least give the male lalafell the option to not have a blown nose and blown tipped ears

Throwing my support behind you, OP. I have a femroe alt but I think she's got the black pupils (different face?) but you can see it in Snoegeim from the Myths raids and I think it's a fun and unique trait. There's something to be said for giving even different faces and genders for the races little unique things that help make them their own, IMO.

I agree wholeheartedly, even if it is a technical oversight (though I'd argue we'd be seeing the same in other races, especially sea wolves, if it were), it's such a distinctive and unique look for hellsguard, and would be a shame to lose it. It's not unlike how dunesfolk lalafell have that ethereal, glassy look.

I do wonder, given au ra have that polygon slot for limbral rings, if it'd be at all possible for every race to have that allotment for special eye customization, so those that do like the defined, black pupil can have that if they so wish. It'd also be an elegant solution for those au ra players who prefer the current limbral ring look to preserve that look.

Overall, the graphical update does look fantastic, especially the calculations of eye reflections to time of day, and with the listening to of au ra scale reflectiveness feedback, it's clear the devs are seeing and listening to feedback to a degree. So I hope they take into consideration to take feedback with eyes especially carefully, given just how important they are to us.

my assumption with the new "morphs from midlander" thing is that may actually make it easier to make new face variants, so possibly more options in character creator in the future
