Never thought of it that way, but honestly would make sense.-snip- part of your character lore or something it's a bit of a bummer...

Personally I like how it mimics the eyes of the Ancients, as if they had inherited it from them. It's not some headcanon I'm super attached to, but it was a nice thing to think about.
Would make me laugh if it increased the chance of why _____ was hostile/rude to us when we meet at the ______, as if an image of _____ ______ ______.
Yes I agree, depending on the colour you choose it definitely looks like they're glowing! If your character has a neutral eye colour the limbal rings are also a cool way to create sort of an optical illusion of changing your eye colour, something that's currently not possible without a Fantasia.Yeah, I've seen people say that but I've never really known if it was true or not. But what's interesting is that it FEELS like it for some people, it gives some range in what you can achieve, and with the new visuals we lose some of that stark contrast between the two colors, so if it's an integral part of your character lore or something it's a bit of a bummer...

Hopefully they will clarify if they're using the exact same colours in the example images or if something else is going on, because the limbal rings do look completely different.

I agree wholeheartedly with roegadyn eyes, particuarly hellsguard, seem to be losing the shine and colored/muted irises that really added identity to them.
With hellsguard eyes in particular, I'd add that it made them almost akin to the glassiness of dunesfolk lalafells' eyes. So I do hope they consider walking back the almost-too realisticness, considering they're being so conscientious of preserving XIV's artstyle, and the identity of each race.

I'm really worried for my male and female Elezens because of what they did to the eyes. I don't want my bright lavender eyes to turn darker and gray. Why are the lashes droopy all of a sudden? The dull eyes make him look sad and depressed.
On this specific model, the mouth corners are less pronounced, erasing the slight frown it used to have. The cheekbones seem to be a bit lower, and the chin is missing that curved shadow, which really used to give a stern, serious expression to this character. That expression was reflected in the brightness of the irises, that contrasted with the shadows around it. But with the new model, the eyelashes are longer and that spark in the irises is gone, and it feels like that severe expression is not as present. To me, it feels like another character.
And I play a Femroe too, now faced with the same problem.![]()
Dunesfolk eyes probably look the most different.

This is easily solved by a luminosity slider. All they need to do is add that and you can make any color dull or neon. Why do you think Au Ra picked limbal rings to begin with? Because they want them to be bright LED rings! They want the eyes to look unnatural compared to other eyes. To me, the change makes Au Ra eyes look less distinctive, and I am not a fan. If you don't like the LED rings, just take them off.

Hopefully this reaches them, and they are either able to alleviate our worries or clarify what their intent is.
No denying that having options to matte or metallic/glow would be nice.
but without further information from them, we must let them know we have concerns.

Don't forget that the expansion is not ready to be released and that all this is still subject to change,
personally I was not a fan of the "led" aspect in the eyes of the Ao'ra and I am not that it would look good on high definition models.

The new eyes look better, IMHO. The old eyes look simply dead.
Cheers
I actually agree, but if people liked the old eyes it's gonna take some adjusting.
Personally I'm very excited for the update and I think everything they've shown looks better than what we have currently, but I'm probably just not as attached to my character as others are.
