I'm all for new suggestions for housing!
Why not just suggest housing for everyone?
Everyone can have an island sanctuary- so why not housing too?

From my understanding its how the crystal engine handles housing vs IS.
For housing - your "plot" is a person; you can dress it how you wish and so the world can interact with it.
For IS your IS is YOU - everything is related to you being around; the island glamours are literally exactly that - that information is connected to you rather then your actual island; thats why your island instance needs to be summoned.
Now before my favorite lala Joya chimes in (I see you skittering around on the ceiling; watching and waiting my fellow Coeurlite) Instanced housing is workable from a "technical" standpoint but would need to be burned down first and likely make a lot of ire as a result. As SE would need to change the way our houses associate with us to something akin to IS as our housing would need to query vs just being a static placement. (speak about exteriors). The problem becomes twofold as you would need to create a entry point to instanced housing and avoid the upkeep on two different DBs (Warded vs instancing) and call me jaded; but honestly at this point there is something of a expectation that housing is the way it is - if the devs begin to open up accessibility I fear it would be blood in the water and the volume for every other housing demand under the sun would hit pre-Stormblood levels of annoying.
I mean look now and its generally always the same folks mostly consistantly asking or suggesting things and I am not sure having the forum filled with "why do I need GC rank to get housing" to "Remove the auto demo for good" as people siege the bastille.
Instanced housing is not impossible - just a headache to bring about; I think largely because you would need to change the existing system and deal with the playerbase blowback as you diminish the exclusive or rather status associated with being a home owner.
Apartments say hello. It's not as much of a headache as you think.
Most players aren't after a house because its "exclusive" or has perceived status. They're after a house because they want a house to decorate and/or use. The blowback might be vocal but it would still be coming from just a small group of players.
Also, Crystal Tools was the 1.0 engine that YoshiP tossed out when he took over. FFXIV is using a different game engine now.
Looking at it under the hood Crystal tools is still at its core (with good parts of Luminous plugged in) Interestingly enough and this is more to expand because I knew I could summon you like beetlejuice! I mean more that folks are going to want yards and sizes and such when I am referring to headaches. I disagree that many are not after a house for status - demand really is only driven by scarcity - you can see this by looking at places where there are vast swathes of housing - when there is enough housing like on OCE; you'll find a large amount of the playerbase don't care about it at all..Apartments say hello. That's FOMO driving demand, not perceived status or prestige. Have an adequate supply so there is no fear of missing out and players will wait until they want it, reducing current demand.
Yards and sizes don't need to be a problem with instanced housing. Other MMORPGs have proven that.
If SE were to say "improving instanced housing is something we are going to do so every player can have the house of their dreams", would you object?
